If what I heard is true we could have a source of OEM belts at less than half price. I'll explain. There's a guy in our town rides an HD and he was out tourin last year. One of his compadre's had a belt go on him but there was another guy there who told them that HD imported their belts from a company in England and then boxed and badged them for sale to us shmucks for over 100% profit. If it's true we need to do some serious shouting about this. But if it's true and I can get the companies name and the spec's of the belts, I propose that we use real OEM parts. I for one would buy one at less than half price as piece of mind. If they only do bulk we can get together. If you need them posted a little bit more discreetly for customs tax reasons I'm sure someone could do that. Not me of course as that might be illegal. insert nervous cough here Any way I will keep you posted. I've got another 10 days to go on the oil rig but I'll look the guy up when I get home. You wouldn't believe he was a Harley rider. Beard, belly, T-shirt (black) and a black leather waistcoat. LOL Nice guy though. Need to educate him in the way of the BUELL. He's fascinated by the idea of an HD lump in a sports frame. Never got round to hooking up with him last year when we were both sober. Gaz |

Spare a thought for us XB owners here in the UK,a new "upgraded" XB9 belt is $322.00 (£175). I'm trying to locate a cheaper source myself,as I run without belt guards & cover alot of miles. A local bearing supplier, who just happens to stock drive-belts aswell,as said it's only a matter of the correct length of the belt, the ammount of teeth (155) and the pitch ? and I guess getting the right strength/construction material? I've just scored a cheap XB belt from Ebay and i'll be following this up with the guy at the bearing company,i'll keep you informed of the outcome. Because like you've mentioned I could ship the belts over to the US as gifts or used parts to avoid the customs charges, that's if they turn out to be the right spec/price of course. |
