What exactly is involved in the 5k ml. service? HD Dealer in town has an estimate of $297 before anything else comes up... is there something more they do besides change the oil?

There is more than the oil change, that is probably the easy part. But the rest of it is not hard. You should invest in a service manual.

5K includes:
-primay drive fluid change and adjustment of tensioner

-adjust and lube clutch cable and throttle cables

more stuff too

They *should* (straight from the manual):

replace oil and filter
inspect and service air cleaner
inspect and service brake pads
adjust primary
replace tranny oil
inspect idle speed
steering head bearing resistance check
adjust throttle cables
adjust clutch and clutch cable
check belt and pulley
check tire pressure and inspect thread
clean oil cooler fins

300 bucks is too much if you ask me and I would run home and do it myself.

Save yourself half the money, do the fluids, tranny and oil tank and filter, keep your receipts and have them do the rest to keep the warranty in effect.

He can do all of it w/o voiding the warranty. Just do it right. Take your time.

I'll need to do mine in about 700 miles. If you're still in AZ you can ride up here and we'll take care of both of them. I've even got an extra bed if we don't get them done in one day. I won't need to change my fluids as I just did but I've got tools and a three different auto parts stores within five miles. When we get done we can ride the spars again : ).
