Twice now and only recently i have hit the limiter and my motor completly cuts out. I have to pull over and start it again. What could be the problem? 04 XB12s

Have you tried toggling the kill switch while you are rolling?

What you are describing happened to me, but it occurred while banking.

The rev limiter could just be a coincidence. Could be the Bank Angle Sensor.

what do you mean by toggling the kill switch?
When it happened i didnt have to come to a stop to start it again, as i was rolling i just fired it back up and kept going...

When my BAS died I would have to either refire the engine or toggle the kill switch (turn it off and then back on) before refiring the engine.

nope, no need to toggle, just refires straight away. thanks for the input though. Anyone else?

It sounds like a fault in how the rev limiter is operating to me. That would be controlled by the ECM. That just a guess though.

thats what i thought originally but ecm spy is not throwing any troubles codes.not sure if it would pick something like that up anyway?

I don't know of a rev limiter fault trouble code.

You MIGHT get temperature limit, oil limit or other safety limit which will also do a spark interrupt which can FEEL like rev limit spark interrupt.

But the motor wouldn't cut out on any of those. The only one that cuts out is the BAS.

Am I right?

Question: can you start it with the clutch in, or bump as it slows, like you would on a slow speed stall?

A triggered BAS requires a toggle so it's not likely that.

I'd be looking for a coincidence, i.e., at that speed enough pressure is built up to move that bare wire against the frame; in that riding position I am forcing that bare wire against the frame.

When it happened to me, i was surprised at how long it took the bike to recover from the activation of the rev limiter.

I thought I really broke something because of how long it took, but all you should have to do is close the throttle and let the revs come down.

Is only happened twice and i havent tried to clutch start it. I just pull over and while still rolling fire it back up and off i go again. I did notice though that my oil level was a little low. Could it be a safety cut out at high revs? due to lower oil pressure?
