Just went for a ride and when I stoped I notice something shiny looking at me from my rear tire. I only have 13 miles or so Togo to make it home so I not worried. But I was wondering how far anybody has gone with cords showing? The will have to sit till Saturday till I can go get one. That really sucks, but shiny tires don't seem like a good idea. I just wish I could wearout the sides a whole heck alot more than the center. I just find enough twisty roads to ride on. Lol.

I've done about 120 miles with the cords showing. 90 miles home, then about 30 more miles to the dealer with a new tire around my neck.

I don't let my tires get that bad before replacement so I cannot comment. I'd rather be on a safe tire then in a emergency room or worse over a couple hundred dollars.

I replaced my back tire last week because I wore out the side of the tire smooth. I have no idea how many more miles I had left on the center.

I'd love to see that tire. Your telling us your doing 80% of your riding on the edge of the tire. LOL

If they are scorpion syncs don't mess around with them at all. They are scary thin once the tread is gone.

It was the first and last time for me. It was a Diablo Corsa III on my 1125CR, I stopped for gas last winter while out riding, and I was about 90 miles from home and I noticed it. Pretty much came out of nowhere. I knew it was low on tread, but not that low. The tire had about 7000 miles on it, which is low for me compared to other tires I have ran on the various Buells.

No doubt Froggy. A tire that is good a worn and then put it on the Hwy for extended time and it can go Kaput quick

Isn't that question like the Redneck's last words: watch me do this?

Note to all: sport tires seem to have no rubber left after the wear indicator. Go with what people are saying here and get new ones before the cord.

Better to call CAA/AAA than an ambulance.

Tire cords showing?

You guy are nuts! Or much better rider than me.

I'm sweating now with just balding on the sides! (I did feel the front pushed a few times)

Well I'm getting new tyre tomorrow, finally.

I'll see if I can find you a pic of one of my worn tires.
Not everyone lives in Hondaville the flat lands.

I put 500 miles on a rear tire showing cords. Not by choice, mind you, but I bought the bike and had to get it home somehow. I don't recall what brand/model tire. I just made sure not to go crazy with the throttle, and kept it under 65 mph. Yep, that was the LONGEST 500 miles I've ever been.

I don't care where you live Glitch. Fact is you probably had the center well worn and then went up to the Mountain hand did in with the sides that were worn also. And excuse me about the Honda jokes. Have ya ridden a 954??? Maybe... maybe not. The bike handles in every way just as well and maybe better in situations. Remember its not like I haven't been on Buell's circling almost 11 years. This Honda is awesome. But then again I'm a fan of most 2 wheel bikes.

I know you don't care Honda-Boy, I just like pulling your chain.
You went 100% Honda, can't even say you still got the wife's 9 any longer either.
I can't let you get away with that without some good ribbin', it just wouldn't be right now would it?
Honda 954, yeah I've ridden it.
Yeah it's a good bike, soul-less as it is.

Believe it or not, both those tires have less than 1500 miles.
Around here, you don't have to go up to the mountain.
hand did in with the sides that were worn also.
Not sure what you're trying to say there Dana.

Didn't notice I hit the "N" key. "Had did in"

Ribbin???? You couldn't effect me if you wanted. Bike souless??? Matter of opinion. I've ridden many many bikes they all have something about them. Nothing souless about 12,000 RPM's and dragging your elbow's straight. I'd say you better pay real good attention.LOL And yeah the wifes bike will be gone soon. Will I ever be back on a Buell. I don't know maybe. I guess that depends on what Erik's future is. Till then I'll be riding the CBR.

I ran cords accidentally on a set of Conti Road Attacks. Knew they were getting low, but could have sworn they still had a little tread in the middle. Then noticed when I got to work that they had a shiny strip about 8" long. Those things had NO rubber beyond the wear bar, obviously.

Unfortunately, sometimes it sneaks up on ya.

Discovered Saturday night upon arrival in Fort Stockton. Not a good sign 500 miles into a 4,400 mile trip.

Stock Pirelli Diablo on the wife's Ducati Monster:

Drove another 284 miles to the first place that was a) open on Sunday b) had a tire that would fit and c) would remove the wheel from the bike.

Nor was I to escape unscathed. Noticed the telltale dark line appear on my rear tire in Palm Springs. White cord showing by the time we got to Malibu. Calls to all the local dealers turned up empty for a replacement tire. Next place w/an available tire was up in the Bay area so rode up on PCH-1 and into Redwood City for the night.

Here's what she looked like in Redwood City:

Next morning made it the few miles to the dealer where I had the 'privilege' of paying $110 for the mount and balance. I expected to pay full retail for the tire but beggar's can't be choosers.

Yeah, it was worth it. East just outside of Oatman, AZ:

Next time I take a trip of that duration I'm mounting a new Pirelli Strada on the rear. Local place only charges $25 to mount and balance when I bring in the wheel. Then can switch back after the trip.

As always, YMMV.

Thanks Obiewan! Those are the Cortech Sport saddlebags. I've got the matching tailbag too but the wife wanted them on her bike as a backrest. She's also using a Cortech tankbag.

This is the second time I've gone on a Houston to CA trip w/the saddlebags and they work like a champ.

They all came with rain covers which were tested on the way out during a hellacious downpour between Wilcox and Tucson. All bag contents stayed bone dry. The same could not be said of the riders... : )

We ride to Deal's Gap every year, I've been looking for a good set of saddle bags. My friends ride from Houston to here in Alabama, then from here we go to the Gap. I'm always strapping on a dang bag anyway I can, lol.

where did ya get them from? I see a bunch of different kinds, but not the ones you have.. Could you send me the link from the site you purchased them at? and the exact kind/type..

Getting ready for Thunder Beach in a few weeks. I'll have time to get them in and take them for a test run. : )

Thanks.

Cortech Sport Saddlebags:

http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Sport-Sadd lebags-p-149_31.html

They were a gift from my wife a few years ago so don't remember exactly where they came from but they are pretty readily available from most online shops.

Obiewan, contact Ft_bstrd, he works for Bumpus Harley, which is a Cortech dealer, and they can get you any Cortech bag. Best part is he can hook you up with a Badweb price. : )
