All, found an 06 Ss rear shock I was thinking of picking up for a spare. I have the 09 parts manual, but that doesn't help figure out if the 06 was the same... any help? Thanks!

As far as I know all XB shocks are the same length from 2003-2010 except Ulysses models.
Ther emay be slight differences over the years but all will fit.

Trojan, my understanding is that the Ss is different due to the longer suspension travel, but maybe I'm wrong.

06-08 XB12SS has the SS shock, while the 09-10 XB12SS has the STT shock.

Froggy - thanks. Where do you get all this stuff? Do you have the parts manual for every year?

Trojan, my understanding is that the Ss is different due to the longer suspension travel, but maybe I'm wrong. The only real difference between the SS and S models is the longer rear subframe and wider frame.

The SS has the same suspension travel aas the standard S models I think. It is only the X and XTT/STT models that got longer travel rear shocks.

Not entirely true. To reiterate Froggy the '09-'10 Ss has the STT suspension.

Froggy, I wouldn't make any bets on how many parts manuals you have. I need my money.

Ok, so to wrap this up, if I want a spare, I need to find an STT shock, or a shock off an 09-10 Ss. I'm in no hurry, but at some point I will send off the shock to be serviced and hate having the bike sit while waiting for it to return. Also would give me a chance to pull the spring and have it tested - seems like no one has the spring data for my suspension - front or rear.

Thanks again!
