When it comes to lights I begin to wonder which direction to go??? I have a 2003 Firebolt

I am talking headlights, tail lights, and marker lights.

What do you all think is some of the best routes for me to take?

Thanks

There are so many option out there I am having trouble deciding myself. I would be doing this on an 09 Firebolt. Here are some things I'm thinking about:

-Integrated LED Tail Light or 2010 LED Tail Light with flush mount signals in the rear
-Flush Mount side markers in the front with 1125r mirrors for signals (Yamaha R1 flush mounts should fit from what I've read here)
-Cant decide between Philips CrystalVision or HID headlights. I dont know if I want all the extra wiring for HID (relays, ballasts, etc...) Look up other posts on HID and you will see what I mean. If I do not use HID I would replace the low beam lens with another high beam lens for higher output.
-I am with no doubt replacing all possible lighting (ex. signals, plate light) with LEDs for a more crisp look.
-Still trying to figure out a way to do LEDs on the dash with no "hot spots"
-Considering a custom indiglo gauge application instead of LEDs

Hopefully that gave you some ideas

I am just wondering some good places to check out what is available, I would like to stay away from stock stuff as much as possible.

I like led lights the most by far but not sure where to go from there.

If I could do it again I would not go with the 1125 mirrors. There is a much better Ducati set that usually sells on ebay for around $200.

HIDs are definitely the way to go as far as the headlights. Check out JeepinBueller's write up on wiring the relays. I bought my HIDs from motorcyclehidlights.com and have been very happy with them.

Check out xblights.net for the brightest LED taillight.

For me, there's no better lights than an XBLights tail, Kellerman Micro1000 LED turn signals, and HIDs! Bright, crisp, clean and good looking lights.

You can get that taillight in a few different ways. By far the brightest I've personally seen.

Forgot to mention I live in MI so I don't need rear signals but would like them anyway. But with that said I want an incorporated set of signals and brake.

Robert at XBLights does them in multiple configurations.

Are there other lights that are cheaper? Yup, but none as good or as bright as Robert's! Clear Alternatives in one brand...but they are...well...I used to have one and replaced it with an XBLights one, and was so impressed by the difference that I went to a bit of work to photograph them both and posted this:

Hmmm, I was hoping to keep with a smoked lens. I will have to check out xblights, I light option 5, but not digging the price.

Otherwise I was looking at some lights off ebay, I know name brand is important to some as it does follow suit with quality most times. but I am not looking to spend in all $600 on lights for my bike.

I guess I would be happy with some bright white bulbs, and removing the low beam scoop for the headlights, some ebay special lights for markers as I can find them all day for $25ish, and I will have to see about the tail light.

Found plenty for $100

Here are some at Extreme Discount Cycle, goes with my name for sure

XBLights use red LEDs, so he could easily make one with a smoked lens.

There are certainly cheaper alternatives (hah) out there, but none come close to the brightness of the XBLight. When I had the Clear Alternatives unit, I ALWAYS was quadruple checking my mirrors when braking, because I knew it wasn't super visible. Not a fun way to have to ride. I eventually chose safety and quality over cheap parts.

Did you click on the link in my last post? Seriously go look at the comparison of the XBLight in that link!

I'll not badger you any more ; ) I just want you to be informed before purchasing, and ultimately I want you to be safe!

Yeah I seen the difference, checked them out as I mentioned option 5 is really nice but at $220 it is a bit steep for me.

Save your pennies for an XBLights tail light. You are wasting your money on anything else. Top notch product.

Well I ended up ordering the cheaper light I posted above. Guess I will see how it goes. Found one for $79.

Now to markers. Also think I might try to find some bright white bulbs for the headlights.

Flame on..... so you bought an inferior light, against the suggestion of every single person on here. Paid $80+ shipping for this light knowing that the suggested light is only around $130 more with 10 times the light and quality. And did this when you should have just waited saved up over time and bought the good light? Yeah, this is just a fail IMO. Since you obviously could care less about suggestions, I'm done with giving them to you. Yes. You are just dumb to me. Good day, sir. Flame off.

Thank you everyone for the kind words on XB-Lights!!!

No need to bash the fella for buying a Clear Alternatives light. Price makes a huge difference for many consumers. Hell, I'm a cheap ass with most stuff, so I understand his decision. I would imagine Clear Alternatives sales are much much higher then mine.
#1 - price is much cheaper
#2 - there all over the place

And I need these inferior lights out there so people can possibly see the difference one day!!
Makes my lights look even better.

I do agree my lights are pricey, but you have to account for the circuitry and labor time to build....
Maybe if I ever go mainstream I can drop the price due to lower labor times. Who knows....

Good luck on your bike! Post pics when you get it all done up!

Thanks Ratfink

Just what I was looking for , gotta love it when someone specifically says why they dont want or cant get something an all you can do is bash.

Rah7777777, knows who I am, you have a great product I know, and when the clear alternatives light I have had for 3+ yrs fails on me I will definitely be purchasing from you. Option 5 is one of my next upgrades just need to put my bike back together.

Please take it easy on Xtremelow. He got lots of great advice to buy the XBlights, but ultimately it is his decision in the end to buy whatever he wants. The CA light is an inferior unit, but it is his bike, his ride, his money, his choice. : )

Here's my tail light.......sorry in advance for no actual working pics or vids. I made what I wanted and it only cost me about $30......I intergraded a 194 push in style turn signal socket into the light housing & used a amber 4 led bulb....the stop lamp is still a standard filiment bulb. Over all Im very happy with the results....the blinkers are visible from 500ft during the day and further at night. The stop lamp now looks like a hourglass in the center of the tailight.

Oh and another decent low cost option is to get the 2010 LED tail light that comes on 2010 1125/Firebolt/Lightning models. You just need to change the connector and you are good to go. American Sport Bike sells one with the right connector preinstalled.

hey X
if you change your mind I am thinking of selling my XB Light (full board no integrated blinkers) to get a custom one built over the winter (if it can be done), shoot me a text if you want to take a look at it. I am in your area a little more regularly now as I will be taking classes there this coming semester.

Thanxs Aaron, but no matter how bad I hate blinkers I still need them for piece of mind. Since I dont like how they look hanging off the sides I am left only with a couple options, 1- integrated led, or some type of flush mount leds.

no worries man

I like my blinkers to stand off my bike a bit because otherwise they tend to wash out in the other lights (headlights or taillights)

following you on the bike ride this summer, I had trouble telling what way your blinker was indicating because it just didn't show through, and what did show was washed out in the brake/running light. I needed to hang back until you made your move to be sure.
but to be fair I have a dark smoke tinted visor too, so that didn't help any
