Boy... I take a small wooden block and put it under the right sidestand. Loosen the drain plug a bit before and then you aren't wrenching on the bike when it's near upright. Just unscrew it by hand. It hasn't fallen over yet. K.I.S.S.

Your bike has a sidestand on the right, too?

I musta got cheated, I've only got one on the left...

But seriously, I do have a set of the Handy stands, as well as a generic shop stand that's very similar, and I run a steel rod (maybe 3/8"?) right through the rear axle and the holes in the bike stand where the swing arm supports fit in. It's easier than jacking around

(get it? jacking around?)

with those little padded supports.

If I lived in Phoenix, I would run Castrol TWS 10-60.

420.. no kidding. They work fine. I run a Ford FL1A on my Cyclone... same one that goes on a mustang GT if you want to look up a match. Don't know if it will go on an XB without bumping up against something. Big honking thing, increases my oil capacity significantly, and gives a LOT more filtering surface. I did put a clamp on it to hold it in place though, the bigger heavier filter can spin off from vibration (been there, done that, have the oil stains to prove it).

I have also used the oil filter from a 96 ford windstar V6, which was twice as long as the sportster filter, but not as big around as the FL1A. Also worked like a champ.

Manufacturers don't design filters for their engines, they pick one off the shelf that has a reasonable form factor and filtering capacity. Nothing special about motorcycle engines in this regard.

LOTS of information about this in the knowledge vault. Your XB shares a filter with the Blast, which I think is different then the sportster filter the tubers use.

amsoil change intervals at 25,000 miles,or one year w/filter change at 6 months.
wear protection is awsome and $ saved to boot.
they will test your oil(what ever brand)for impurities and wear.

>>>>(been there, done that, have the oil stains to prove it).

I did it in a turn at Heartland Park Topeka. Intereting where the oil from a Buell motor goes when the filter leaves the motor at speed.

I was fine, but have a plaque from Reg Pridmore on my wall, signed by the two riders behind me who went down, commemoarating my stupidity.

Remind me to tell you the story someday....

Please don't do that to a perfectly good Buell!

If Amsoil was everything Amsoil said was, I'd still think you'd want to change your oil more than once a year. There's more to an oil change than just changing oil.

Even with the best lube, metal on metal breaks down.

Amsoil may be good oil, but their marketing is as shady and dishonest as I've seen.

Blake,

What's your basis? I'm just curious as to what it is that makes their marketing shady/dishonest as opposed to any other marking scheme for other brands, i.e., Mobile.?

I always founds AMSOIL's website to be a bit much. They do slam HD a bit on their oil statements, which I did like.

The Mobil One website has a section for FAQs which I find quite informative.

They slammed HD because HD decided not to use them any longer as the suppliers for the HD brand synth. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

RE: HD and their stance on synthetics, HD was out to lunch and finally admitted so with the offering of their "won" synth.. I have no knowledge of the HD/AMSOIL relationship but continue to dislike their marketing approach!
