The last of my goodies came in...the flat stock for the rear mount bridge (1/8" x 2" 308 flat stock)...picked up some .023 308 wire for the MIG..(I had some .035...too big)...scored a couple of flap wheels and some spare tips.

And I just got off the phone...my E. B. R. ECM just went on the brown truck...we gonna be rockin' this weekend. (unless I pull some stupid schizit and ruin something)...

And I found a place to get Torca clamps that is absolutely ON THE BALL for customer service...I bought a set and a spare set....It LOOKS like I can reuse the stock rear hanger bands...

OK...first fit up and test ride...I haven't decided if I will leave it stainless and buff it or take it in and have it ceramic coated....for now, I am going to ride it to see how it does...if it does good, I will detail the finish better...it is loud...but not brassy...not fag straightpipe harsh...but loud...I like it...it sounds ..... EVIL....

I just got done mounting my modified stock muffler onto my 12S.

Not as loud as I thought it might be (which is good). Smooth, deep sound, sitting on the side stand anyway.
It's got four chambers similar to a flow master (I hate on cars.!). All four chambers have from no baffling to something different in each one.
Basically a single pass design.
The initial gases continue thru the muffler as stock to the back of the can, then is smoothly directed forward thru the baffles and out the front of the can.

Time to see how much fuel mapping needs to be changed..

Mike

Went for a club ride yesterday...two of the bikes had Buell race cans, two had modified stock mufflers and mine with the "car muffler"...mine was about as loud as the modified mufflers ("hawk")and louder than the race cans.

With the E.B.R. ecm and the new muffler, it is a whole different beast. It is softer off the bottom, which at first, I didn't like...but it is far better than the jerky "toggle switch" on-off suddenness that I was used to...there is a blubber at very small throttle openings...but It does not spend much time at very small throttle openings ; )....

The bike has so much more torque than it did, it unreal...before it would wheelie in first gear if you were rolling along at about 3500 and you nailed it..it would do a little short wheelie....now if you get a handfull of throttle you could easily end up sitting on your skint ass watching the bike doing flips...its got "dial-a-wheelie power now : )....needless to say it has astonishing drive out of the corners now...not a bunch more "horsepower" but a lot more power where you can use it.

And...all the remarks I have heard are that it sounds great. I get a lot of double takes at traffic lights...it has a deep bass potato-potato thump...

So......I've asked a few people, and nobody thinks it's a good idea to put a butterfly valve in an aftermarket exhaust that functions with the actuator on the XB12. I recently found out that Benelli has been using this for a couple years now. Well........... I'm getting some BAD ideas......

Triumph uses an exhaust valve in the Daytona 675. It seems some folks think it's a good idea.

Did mine. Need a clamp for the inlet (2 3/8)??? and 2 turnout/turndown tips. Would 2 and 1/4'' be suitable for a 2 inch outlet? Figured it wouldn't mater much since its the outlets anyways.

Found some 90 and 45 degree exhaust pipes at Advanced Auto. They both looked too big/long unless I maybe cut the 90-degree one in half.

I cut the stock tubes on the end of the muffler off at 22.5 degrees angle...flipped them over and welded them on to get 45 degree outlet.

I'm kinda confused about this. I know the pipes going straight as they are stock aren't good for the tires... so figured I'd need either turnout/turndown, elbows (45 or 90) or slashcut? Would slashcut be safe?

I would definitely find a way to aim the exhaust away from the tire. Cutting an angle in the end of the outlet might help reduce the noise a small amount as it changes the way the pressure pulse exits the system, might be worth trying if you make a clamp on exit tip.

Well mufler shop screwed up, and won't fix it without more money. I neglected to have the inlet pipe shortened and the pipes he shop welded are almost touching my tire. Will have to have the hanger bracket cut off and re-welded and get 2 new 90-degree elbows welded on. Fantastic. Also still need a clamp and a backup rear strap.

In the meantime put my old jardine back on. Guess what, it literally BLEW UP, like exploded. I ran over the outlet pipe and almost went over a guardrail and off a cliff in West Virginia.

Send the pictures to Jardine, maybe they will send you a new free system.

Maybe. I left the baffle and pipe and packing on the side of the road though, only had full leathers no pack couldn't carry it.

I'm so friggin lost/overwhelmed with this muffler. As it stands I need to...

Shorten the inlet pipe.
Have the bracket re-welded.
Torca clamp to pair with the welded bracket?
Torca/exhaust clamp for the inlet to be tight with the jardine elbow.

Anyone verify this for me?

You already have the elbow mounted...on the inlet side of the new muffler, cut off about 1/2 inch...cut a couple of slits in the pipe so it can be clamped down...get a 2 1/4" torca clamp...put it on the muffler, slide it on and clamp it down...

For the back end, I went to Lowes and got a bag of 7" hose clamps and 2" hose clamps.
I used three clamps side by side to hold the muffler on...

This may sound odd... But I would take a look at the Harley/cycle customizing shops in your area, chances are good that you can find a decent shop with a person that really knows what they are doing and get you set up in an hour for not too much money.

Did you check your tire to make sure there was no damage from running over the outlet?

I would still contact Jardine and let them know what happened, they probably won't get back to you (still no response from them for the last message I sent and don't fell like calling them).

Greg- yeah we checked. My Pilot Pure is a-ok! I will contact Jardine, but I'll have to tell them the rivets blew twice so I had to bolt it, maybe they'll blame that.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As it stands now

Do those pipes look slanted enough to not melt my tire? But even with the 1/2 inch shortening of the inlet they're still gonna be too close to tire for comfort, so should I slash cut/trim these or get 2 new tips/elbows welded on?

Ahhh thanks Fast, now I see whole the clamps hold up the back. And I defintley could've gotten tighter bends from that shop. What a waste of $60!!!

Where did you hook the 3 clamps to? Through the hole of the original hanger? And are those springs you got rewelded onto the front?

Guess I got some work to do. Thanks!

The springs are Jardine springs...the clamps go exactly where the original clamp did.
