Ok, question...I changed oil & trans fluid in the XB and, from what info I gathered on here, decided to use Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in trans...Haven't been able to road test yet, but noticed bike won't roll around garage with it in gear, clutch in, and not running. It should roll as if it were in neutral...anyone else with this problem?? I think the clutch needs adjusted. Anyone with a service manual, what's the procedure to adjust the clutch? (it's not like the shovelhead)

put slack in cable.
turn adjuster w/ flat herd screwdriver till you feel resistance of a tight cable.
pull in clutch lever and let slap open 3 times.
lossen adjuster 1/4 turn and back to tight.
(this sets the ball's in the ramps)
and then tighten again
i repeat this untill the tight spot is in the same place. thus i know the balls are set.
then back off 1/4 turn and put spring and lock back on the adjuster, don't go tighter if it doesn't slip on.
spec is 1/4 to 1/2 out.
do big burn out to get tire real sticky, start test ride on one wheel and do stoppie to confirm breaks work.
ofcourse if you do the last part the test ride usually ends to be longer

All you did was change the fluid, so I doubt the clutch is the problem. When you want to roll it in gear, pull clutch lever in, roll the bike back a foot or so, then it should roll forward smoothly.

Make sure you follow the Manual for the correct level of trans fluid. Not all the fluid drains out, so you need somewhat less than 1 qt. to fill it back up. Should only need between 27 and 30 oz. to get correct level. Overfill by a couple oz. and you will probably have troubles finding neutral later.

The Mobil 1 gear oil is good but it's OK to put Mobil 1 20W-50 in both engine and primary/trans. Works real well.

Mike.

What I did was the 1000 mile service, and yes, the clutch does need adjusting...it should disengage completely. I just don't have a service manual, none of the dealers carry squat for buell's....thanks, though.

Amsoil 10-40 in trans? Why? And why Amsoil.

Mobil One 75-90 words great for me!
