The Timer Cover fell off my bike. I noticed it when I was over 100 miles away from home in the mountains. I have a couple of questions. First, how does the Timer Cover just fall off? Bad Rivets maybe? Second, could I have caused any damage to anything by riding the bike home, over 100 miles, and it did rain just a little bit? Lastly, how much does a replacement Timer Cover cost. FYI, the silver piece below the black cover is still there and you cannot see the Cam Position Sensor or any of that other stuff. Thanks for the help in advance.

Timing covers are dirt cheap. You can get "fancy" ones for about $20.

I have lost a few myself. Hell one of mine on my Dyna was bolted on & somehow just from vibrating it actually wore out the holes big enough so the cover fell off yet the bolts were still there.

You could stick your next one on with a "honk if parts fall off" bumper sticker

you didn't hear it rattling?
use the h-d silver ones since they don't have a ball to fall off on the inside. although they are silver.

With a loud enough exhaust & being half deal its hard to hear 1 little part rattling. Besides you get so used to the other rattles that you dont even pay attention anymore: D

That's a common XB problem... "rattling" and "loose"... I guess they need to invest in a new pop-rivet gun and or "pop-rivet gun operator"....

Years ago I was following a TR-4 Triumph car which had a bumpersticker which read "All parts falling from this vehicle are of the finest British workmanship". Had a little British Flag. Let's not let this go too far and end up with a stars and stripes version. Get the pop rivets with the pre-drilled safety-wire holes. Part number? Dave?

For years I drove a beloved Triumph TR-6 which would occasionally mark its territory with stray parts or fluids...
