Was filling up my tank at a Petro Express in South Charlotte today and looked at what I thought was a stand-alone diesel pump. To my surprise it wasn't diesel. The pump said Race Fuel. It didn't indicate an octane level on the pump, but I'm assuming that it is suitable for bikes because the last person to use it only got 4 gallons. Stuffs expensive, $4.99/gal. I didn't want to try it until I asked for some of your opinions. Anyone use this stuff. It's a "76" brand of gasoline.

you likely don't need the octane, and it may be leaded, would be be bad for your O2 sensors all . . . . no reason to spend the dough, anbd at least one (lead) not to . . . . . .

Ok..I found out...it's 100 octane, and it is sold at about 27 gas stations around Charlotte. The manual only says "Use at least 91 octane." Anyone???

It is unleaded. It is illegal to dispense leaded fuel into a car/motorcyle in NC. As I assume the entire country...What year is it? I love my model T

I'm gonna give it a try tomorrow.

Advertisement I found on their website:

COMPETITION 100

Competition 100 (unleaded) is designed for high performance street cars, race cars, watercraft, motorcycles, etc. In fact, engines with compression ratios as high as 14 to 1 will benefit greatly from this clean-burning specialty fuel.
Controlled front end volatility provides freedom from vapor lock when you're on the hottest tracks and roads. A sophisticated additive keeps port fuel injectors, carburetors and intake valves clean. This unique fuel is formulated for all engines and blends with any street gas.

To find 76 locations near you that sell 100 Octane Racing Fuel go to our station locator.

Racing fuel is not sold at all locations, if you are having trouble finding a station in your area, please call 1-800-345-0076.

if it's leaded, you should be fine . . .just throwing money away . . . I doubt if vapor lock is gonna be an issue for ya

the idea of leaded fuel for any race only vehical is a little left of center .. . . . don't know of any running cat converters (smile)

beware the marketing hype . . . .. it used to be said in advertising circles, "the truth doesn't stick to glossy paper"

this should be ammended to read "the truth won't stick to web pages."

I've got a 31 A in the garage that's waiting for a decent paint job . . .it's embarrassed to be seen in it's present condition

76 100 is unleaded. It actually can be formulated(and is) to meet Califonia CARB standards. When I had my Cyclone I ran various variations of this stuff to get about 96 octane. I will say this. I ran all kinds of high octane gas blends, but that Cyclone ran the best on that straight 76 100 out of the pump in Redondo Beach.
BTW, there is a pump at the 76 in Indio that dispenses the 110 leaded stuff.

Race gas will boost performance in your stret bike, but not becuase of the higher octane. The slight boost in performance stems from the higher quality fuel formulation (more uniformly volatile). Race fuel contains all the best hydrocarbon molecules and none of the cruddy weak ones. Think of it like the synthetic oil of fuels. : )

I really like the race gas! I use the TRick 101 from the pump. There are 2 Alliance gas stations that carry it near me. Good stuff!

There is leaded fuel around. I'm in WI. There is a gas station near the Milwaukee Mile that has something like 100 oct. that is leaded. It was labeled "race gas".

$15 dollars after fill up: I went through about a .25 to .5 tank of the race 100. I did notice that the bike sounded much better and felt a bit smoother in acceleration. Could be the "sugar pill" effect but probably the fuel.

I really love the race gas! There are 2 alliance gas stations that carry the "Trick 101" gas. GOOD stuff. My bike loves it! Yeah its expensive, but worth it when you are trying to keep up with your buddies on jap bikes in the canyons!

If I only had a 6th gear and 40 more HP!

The leaded fuel isn't good for O2 sensors - be careful. Umm, referring to low-lead or any lead.

i have run a bit of the 100 LL aviation gasoline in the sportster.it is a real good fuel, runs nice, smooth. no detonation problems at 205 psi cranking pressure. but it does darken sparkplugs a bit, and will absolutely trash your motor oil. it will darken motor oil in 4 or 5 hours of operation. when i run av gas i change oil real frequently, like every other week. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT RUNNING ANY LEADED FUEL IN THE XB OR ANY OTHER VEHICLE WITH AN OXYGEN SENSOR. the stock XB only has 10 to 1 compression, i have not done a cranking pressure test on mine, but i dont guess they make over around 160 psi, and mine seems to run just fine on 90 octane unleaded around here.

Is it true that high octane/high quality fuel will clean carbon deposits?
