This morning on my way to work I had nice section of open road in front of me so I got on throttle a bit. Everything was working as advertised until...I missed my 3-4 shift. I was anticipating the pull from the next gear but it wasn't there, that in combination with the horrible sound of the rev limiter I about scared the s%@t out of myself.

Has anything like this happened to anyone else recently or am I the only d#mb&ss?

You're definitely not the only one. Every once and a while i'll miss 1-2 shift if i pussy foot it. Sucks when your really trying to put the hammer down.

My most often missed shift (for some reason its the least smooth in the gearbox) is 2-3.

It happens.

I find it happens much less (perhaps once in all 4 of the trackdays I have been to) at the track but thats because you are anticipating every shift, and doing it the same way every lap. On the street though I have a habit of doing it every now and then, especially after riding around in regular riding boots for a while then switching to race boots.

My shift lever now rides on sealed roller bearings. Took a LOT of slop out of it. Nice and crisp, with any missed 1-2 because of pussyfoot. So.....NO PUSSYFOOTIN'

I miss shifts all the time, but I think it is because my boot doesn't connect with that little shifter nub very well. I am considering a shifter from Precision Engineering, or perhaps cutting/tapping a new "nub" on mine. Anyone tried that for better shift feel?

Yup! I have big gunboat feet, and HAD to extend mine. The end of the nub would hit my boot right where it was rounding off to the sole of the shoe. PITA! I would imagine tennis shoes would solve it, but I don't ride like that.

happens to me in downshifting (the false neutral) - just pull in the clutch until can safely UPSHIFT and then sort it out.

Much safer to bog the motor a little than have it lock up by selecting TOO LOW a gear at TOO HIGH a speed (broke a motor doing that once)

Hit a false neutral once going from 4-3 to pass a car. Gave a real pucker hanging out in the wrong lane coasting. Only others with the Buell have been a limp shift from 1st to neutral once in a while.

I must be doing something wrong, or maybe I need to adjust the shift lever. I miss 1-2 pretty frequently. A friend of mine with a FZ1 said to put a sock on it. It makes it thicker and thus adding to the leverage for the shift up. I mentioned to him, that the Buells are prone to doing that....... Am I wrong?
I read it somewhere, so I have been tolerating it the whole time. I guess I could try and see if it helps.
Anyone have the same problem?

Reverse pattern gives almost NO issues in upshifting but sometimes you get false neutrals when downshifting.

I'll second that when I use to drag race I would hit a false neutral once in a while what I surmised was I wasn't letting the shifter return all the way to the neutral position before I attempted the next shift.
Reversed pattern has been much better takes a while to get use to it.}

I wonder if the issue is that my 12R shifts like a iron head sporty. Does anyone have any experience with one of those after market 6 speed trannys? I heard (from a guy I met up in the sierras)they shift alot smoother.

Unfortunately there is no 6-speed for the XB's. If there were, I am sure it would be a fairly "sought-after" upgrade. I look for 6th on mine all the time, and I've owned it for 4 years!

Gunut75, how did you extend your shifter?
