Hey Badweb. My bike is wooing when its engine braking/coasting. It has to be something from the driven-side of the tranny: in any gear & neutral while moving you can hear this wooing, when at a stop, engine running, you will not hear this. At first I'd thought that it was my clutch. I put the bike up on a rear stand and ran the bike, 1st gear, yea hear it. Neutral with the rear brake pressed to stop to wheel from moving, and no noise. Last thing that I did not try was have the bike off in neutral and spin the tire. My guess is that I have a bad output-shaft/mainshaft bearing. A bad bearing? | ||

Its coming from the case engine case though.. my bike does have 23k miles, so im thinking of replacing the wheel bearings for general service.. Strange to me is that it seems to stop when accelerating, but upon engine braking or coasting it does it. Maybe the engine noise overpowers the sound so I could be wrong at this aspect.. but it seems more pronounced with drag to the drivetrain At the start of a ride; the noise is nominal, I pop a few wheelies and the bike really reacts and starts wooing. Not to say that its because of wheelies, because i've been on fast paced rides with no show and the bike does the same. The bike runs really well Today I cleaned my air filter and adjusted my primary chain, adjusted the clutch hub, and the clutch lever. Still Wooz. My next shot is to open up the primary and take apart the clutch and reassemble. If that works, yay, but i doubt it. | ||

Usually the noise is due to a mis-adjusted primary chain, but I trust your abilities. My fear is that it is the clutch bearings on the way out. | ||

I checked out the clutch today, removed the plates and inspected, they were all good, and I replaced the damper spring with a new because it looked a bit worn out. Hey i've been wanting to replace that ring because it was from my old clutch, so no waste of time there. Put it back together and the bike was still wooing. Problem solved, I opened up the sprocket cover and noticed that the sprocket bolt was loose but still being held my its retaining thing.. flashback: I had to overhaul the transmission because of a simple bent fork-rod and when reassembling the bike, I must have NOT torqued the sprocket down. So I did that, put it through a test of all the gears, and it stopped wooing  . I havent taken it for a good ride so we'll see.. all is in the clear as of now. Im glad that the case does not have to be split here's a vid of the wooing (Message edited by ochoa0042 on July 23, 2010) |
