on interstate today at about 100mph moderate wind bike feels like it wants to wobble, pull my elbows in it feels a little better, but not my most comfortable position. other than slowing down any suggestions?

Low air pressure can cause that wobble. I'm running mine about 4 lbs under for a little better traction with no ill effects.

Be careful when making large or numerous changes to spend some time getting reaquainted with the bike.

thanks. i did'nt want to adjust anything until i was use to it.i have 2100ml on it and i am sure i ride it a little harder now.

STEERING DAMPER
i rode a R1 with a damper on it today n got back on my 9R after
omfg it just felt like that yamaha was welded to the road
170mph with a load of throttle left
( a new personal hi )

Oneway, one thing that people have mentioned with the Ss, given that they have absolutely no wind protection, is that slightly loose sleeves can cause that to happen at higher speeds.

Set the pressure correctly, be careful making any suspension changes (change one setting at a time and in small increments) - if it's still there it may be something as seemingly silly as loose sleeves or rider input. You don't need a steering damper.

I agree. I rode a 9s in florida and was missing my r. I know my jacket is too large for me but I like having a windshield to hide underneath.

the sleeve thing may have something to it, i did have a different jacket on that has loose sleeves. do to the fine buell jacket i bought that the zippers started failing the 3rd day i wore it. and my fine dealershit would not stand behind,or attempt to have repaired because it was discounted glad i did'nt pay the 350.00 they wanted THANKS COZIAHR HD

I've taken my XB9S to 130 mph several times with no "wobbling" or other scary effects. That being said, if I wear a loose fitting jacket, I can get all kinds of buffeting.

My XB12R has always wobbled. I've set the suspension according to the manual, for my weight with riding gear on, then double checked it. I check my tire pressures with a good dial gauge before every ride. It isn't caused by my grip or arms, because if I let go of the grips it immediately begins to shake, anywhere from 45mph to 70 mph. I haven't let go of the grips at higher speeds than that, but I can feel the front trying to wobble up to about 100 mph. The bike has done this since it was new, and continues to do this at 2600 miles. Still love her though...

i have no problems with low speed shakes can let go at almost any speed thats reasonable. road today without that loose jacket not much wind, no shake, but i was only at that speed short time. compared to saturday on interstate for long high speed run

Sshbsn - I had a similar experience. Tire pressure was to low (sold to me about 12 lbs low :o ). Get back to a shop that knows how to set it up and quickly! I set mine by the book and it just wasn't right still... Personally, mine is set up soft and I'm running 4 lbs under for the sake of traction. Book settings leave it very stiff for lighter riders.

I've done top speed several times, never had a speed wobble. Bike feels rock steady and can change lanes like you're doing city traffic.

I've been in a storm I couldn't do faster than 50 mph without loosing my head or amputating my arms but the bike didn't care. Steady as a rock.

And like someone said before, I can let go of the handles at higher speeds and the bike stays rock steady. I don't have the balls to let go at 80+ mph, but below that there is no problem.

I have a xb9r, suspension is setup on the soft side, tire pressure a bit higher than suggested in the manual (especially the front).

Without jumping to quick conclusions, I would seriously think something is not right with my bike (and with any sportsbike for that matter) if it would wobble at higher speeds.

After changing out my rear tire I noticed a bit of a wobble in the rear of the bike. Feels funny, almost like the tire moves sideways, usually happens when I turn hard. Im pretty paranoid about it, but havent a clue what could be causing it

Have you scrubbed in the tire yet? A new motorcycle tire needs to be heated up and "broken in" a certain way (check with manufacturer). Shouldn't be ridden hard the first 150 miles or so. There's also a slick tire mould-release compound that you have to wear off the tire surface initially.

What brand tire did you get?

When I put on my Metzeler rear tire, I ran it straight up, few curves for a 60 mile ride. Then on a couple more rides I started riding curves, slowly at first, then increasing speed and lean angle. YMMV.
