...in the stock muffler removal instructions, it says to LOOSEN the rear axle 20 turns in order to remove the tensioner pulley, it doesn't say to remove it...Is the side stand sufficient while doing this?

I leave the bike on the side stand an loosen the allen bolt locking the rear axle from turning loose. Then I turn the rear axle about 15 turns and the wheel will kind of turn inwards to the left side (as if you were sitting on it). The axle is tapered beyond the bearing surface towards the middle of the hub and so it is enough to loosen the belt.

Then remove the two nuts on the BRACKET holding the tension pulley, push up on the belt where it contacts the pulley and slide the bracket straight out.

At that point, you should be able to access the 3 straps to remove the muffler. Takes me 30 minutes max to remove/replace a muffler.

Thanks, just didn't want any unexpected mishaps on that "last turn" of the axle...

I did mine without removing the tension pulley.

I hang the bike from one of the beams on my friends porch and remove the wheel completely. I've also heard that you can get to the exhaust straps through the idler pulley. I've never tried though.

manual says 15 turns. however it was very easy and straight forward to r&r muffler without messing with the idler pulley or axle.
