Just bought a D&D from Odie, as strange as that sounds. Now, I've been doing some digging here in the archives and saw that some people insist that one use a second harness since it only comes with one. Would it be safer than sorry to do so? Because I've also seen in here that for some people, their D&Ds are or have cracked or sheared around the thick plate that's used as a jacking point from either too much vibration or something else. Would a second harness solve this? Secondly, they won't blow out their packing (if they're even packed to begin with) from alot of deccel popping will they? I'm the type who likes to downshift to slow down rather than use brakes. | ||

I don't THINK theres any packing, I use the engine as a brake more than the brakes too, n never had anything sticking out of my D&D. The stress cracks they talk about happen around the vertical posts used to retain the chin spoiler (at least mine did anyway)I just ended up cutting the front part of it off and don't use the chin spoiler, and I don't see how a second strap would help with that since it's the vibration on the posts that crack the plate. I only use one strap, sure two would be safer, but so would driving a car  | ||

Is there anyway to reinforce those posts and the plate that's prone to cracking? Has anyone done/tried reinforcing their's? (Message edited by heavens_demon on June 21, 2010) | ||

I would guess so but I've never once welded so I couldn't say for sure. | ||

+1 I don't THINK theres any packing I've had mine on there since I bought the bike in early '08. Didn't have any problems with brackets but the damn thing broke my chin spoiler. Turned out to be a good time to get the full belly pan fairing similar to the buell race belly pan. I cut all of the D&D brackets off, fabed up my own brackets and had my local bike shop weld 'em on. Next time I take it off I'll take some pics for ya. | ||

How much do full belly pans run for? Secondly, would you need frame sliders other than the rubber bumpers on both sides of the tank, something that sticks out more so the belly pan wouldn't get all scratched to hell in case of a spill? I've seen some Buells have sliders that are like a bar that mounts on the front with a couple rubber ends, those seem like they would stick out far enough so the belly pan wouldn't get trashed. | ||

With pan, paint and brackets it was a little less than $200. Look in the Buell Motorcycles, Parts, Service, & Accessories section. Any one of the vendors there that offer axle sliders should be sufficient to keep the belly pan ok. | ||

I forgot to add that I had to extend the exhaust tips on the D&D a little. Used stock hardware, one on each side and one on the bottom in the back. Sorry, would have got pics of the brackets but I really didn't want to take it off again.    I know, it's dirty. Thats what happens when you ride it. |
