I have an 04 XB12S, while I was cruising and all of a sudden its started chugging... similar to the feeling of running out of gas. I was able to nurse it like this all the way home, and now it won't even run and idle on its own. Any ideas of what this might be? I was thinking of starting with the plugs... feels almost like its runnin on 1 cylinder. | ||

Sounds like plugs, but check your plug wires, too...one might have come unplugged or worn through. | ||

I had a similar issue and found it to be a bad throttle position sensor. Once replaced and calibrated, it ran better than it ever had. | ||

Having the same problems. replaced spark plugs and wires. just cleaned up ECM contacts, and used dielectric grease to keep them clean. Cleaned up any other contacts that I could get to. Including the wires coming from the fuel pump. Now, when I try to start it the gauges sweep, fuel pump primes, starter turns the engine but the bike won't start. Any ideas of what to do next? | ||

I don't know if this helps, but it would always cut out after I accelerated more than moderately. The AFV value is also 117 on ECMspy. Maybe it fouls the plugs? | ||

Try checking your ignition fuse and relays. Number the relays with a sharpie marker before you start switching them around. Hopefully it's something minor and inexpensive. | ||

I just took the front plug out. Looks pretty odd. I put these in about 20 miles ago. And I just rode around easy, no hot-rodding or anything. Checked fuses, all are in good condition. I'll check relays next.  | ||

My tripmeters also reset after or before each ride. Everytime I check on them they say 0 before I start to ride. Ignition relay? | ||

I only experience the clocks resetting when the battery is disconnected or if the 30a batt fuse pulled. I thought only britbikes were supposed to have electrical gremlins like this. How old is your battery? How about running through the ecmspy diagnostics (eg coils)? | ||

Well it started up. I gave it some hard gas, and it cut out for a sec but started back up while I was still in gear. This is the first time that happened. I rode it for 5 mins just giving it a lot of gas and it hasn't cut out yet again. I'm going to ride it around and log same data and see what I get. All i did was clean up the plug, put it back in, and put the relays back in... wtf mate | ||

Are the electrodes of your plugs also sooty? Maybe try cleaning them and regapping? Also ensure the plug wires are secure. | ||

well it seemed to be fine. some mysterious problem. If it doesn't happen again I'll be happy. Only thing was some knocking when I accelerated hard, but could it be due to the heat? My engine must have been at 200 degrees or higher. And for some reason my laptop didnt record the data to megalog! Not sure on the battery. Holds voltage fine, haven't had any issues. Although when I use my voltmeter to check the volts it shows 18.0 when the key is off. should 14.8 be full charge? Plug wires are good, and I lightly cleaned up the plugs with some fine grit sandpaper. |
