I own a 9r and wanted to see how an s felt and how the 12 went. It had a race kit on it, and it was considerably faster than my 9 with a race ecm and filter and drilled airbox. I mean alot faster. How often do you guys replace your plugs on these things. I know when my car started feeling sluggish I would change the plugs and it was a god little freshner for her. I am at 12,000...
Anyways, hated the seating position. Hated the bar position. The bike felt SO tiny, I couldn't believe that it is essentially the same bike as my 9r!!!!
You guys that ride the "s" should take an 'r' out for a spin. Then again I guess the s would be good for around the city.
Anyways, the dealer wanted $12000, (you read that right) for a used 12s with 2500 miles on it. And had no idea wait the deal with the packs were. But he did have a new 1200 sportster for 10500... Man I hate people sometime.

Anyways don't really know what my point was.
So just another question, How often do you guys change brake fluid? Never really noticed how squishy my brake lever was until today...

Different strokes, Oconnor. I ride a 9s and test rode the 12r. Different seating position with higher footpegs and longer reach to the lower bars. Didn't hate it, but for me the 9s balances the weight on my rear, feet, and wrists.

Have to agree with the Prof.. I own a 9S and recently test rode a 12R, again didn't hate it...but I dindn't love it either !

But its really a state of mind thing, i know there would be days when I would prefer to jump on the 12R rather than the S, but ..what was the point again ??

Totally agree with the different strokes for different folks. It was just amazing how different the bikes felt (the s from an r), considering they are so identical. Loved the power down low.

Anyone have any info on the plug change and or brake fluid change intervals???

Really want a 12 now. Actually I want the 12 power plus a little more but with my 9 rpms. I don't think I have ever hit the rev limiter on my 9 but hit it twice on the 12. I don't think it was because it was low, I think it was because I got to it faster than I expected!!!!

OC,

The R is a better handling set-up that the S with the front more loaded - more stable and precise in the medium to large turns - with the S being a bit better in the sharp ones.

The 9 motor is definitely more inclined to sport riding than the 12 with the extra 700 rpm's - the 12 seems like just is it is really beginning to pull hard - time for a shift. I still haven't gotten used to it but I suppose I will some day.

Overall though, I do prefer the torque of the 12 as the 9 in comparison just seems weak below 4G.

BTW - I've owned both and moved from the 9R to 12S - just fits my riding style a bit better although I do miss the R's front end precision...

I took a test ride on an 12S today,
We started at Glendale and rode up and back Angeles Crest Hwy.

The 12 has more power down low for sure, and in the stop and go traffic of Glendale it was fun.

When we started up the mountain the bike wanted to wallow a little in the corners and I knew the rear suspension was set up too soft. We pulled over and I went up one on the preload which made the bike feel more planted in the turns. If it were my bike I would have made more adjustments to it, but it did feel much better after just that one small change, so I left it alone.

While the bike felt good in the corners, I do believe I prefer my 9R for that type of riding. I'm very comfortable in tight twisty stuff on my 9R and I like it alot (just my riding style).

The power, while easily felt in town, didn't seem to be as big of a deal as I thought it would in the twisties. It seems to me the 9 and 12 make their power differently, and as long as your not affraid to use the motor, then the 9 is perfectly capable to do what I want.

I guess what I'm saying is that, yes, I too was wondering if it wouldn't be nicer to have a 12 instead of the 9. But I can honestly say, now that I've had the chance to put a 12 through it's paces, in varying environments, that I'm not bummed at all. On the Crest I was thinking 'I'd rather be on my 9R'. In fact, I really like the 9 a lot.

Oh, and I got the sling bag! Very nice Buell. Thank you. I use (used) a backpack to carry my lunch and stuff in most everyday, but now I'll be using the sling bag, it's cool.
