So my check engine light came on yesterday and the bike is running pretty crappy. By some luck, my warranty is actually up today so I'm sneaking in just under the wire. Opened a work order yesterday afternoon and will be dropping the bike off today. The only "performance" mod I've done on the bike is the breather re-route so it's not dumping crap back into the engine through the air filter. My question is this: has anyone had any experience with mods and warranty work? Should I remove the mod and put it back to stock as best I can (not ideal given the original hoses are cut to make the mod work) or can I leave it alone and not have any worries? I have 2 1/2 hours before I ride it in...decisions decisions... | ||

That's tough. I've brought my bike in ONCE for something I just couldn't figure out. I had a breather re-route and a custom gauge lay over and they voided my warrenty. I pulled the bike from them, went to a different dealership and nothing was said....your 50/50 at best. The techs themselves probably won't say anything. The service managers are the ones the might raise a stink. | ||

You should be fine as long as it isn't something that could be directly attributed to your mods. As Firebolt32 pointed out the dealer can make it difficult though. I had a wheel bearing go bad under warranty and got different stories from two different dealers about why they wouldn't cover it. I called Buell customer service and they got it straightened out right away. I hate my local dealers for this sort of garbage! | ||

A lot depends on the relationship you have with your dealer. Mine is great here. Was talking to him about installing an Erik Buell Racing ECM on my bike. He said as long as the bike comes to his door my warrantee will be good. He advised to remove it if I ever went anywhere else. | ||

+1 Phazernut... It's all about the dealer. My local dealer is definitely more HD than Buell (like most), but the guys in parts and service have ALWAYS been awesome. Most of our conversations are about what custom work we've done. Find a good dealer and you'll be good to go. Breather reroute isn't a biggie unless you managed to pinch a breather or cause an obstruction. | ||

Thanks all. I actually decided to put it back to stock, but then I couldn't find the original elbow bend hose. I didn't have anything close on hand, so rather then rigging something that would look even worse I just left the re-route in place. I haven't heard anything back yet and they just closed, so I guess I'll just have to see how it plays out. | ||

I have a Bisen full exhaust/Erik Buell Racing ECM/breather re-route/wave rotors front and rear/chain drive/HIDs/woodcraft rearsets/GPR puck/race plastics, plus a bunch of other stuff that I'm sure they could say voids my warrenty. But like others have said, it all depends on the dealership. Mine, honestly, could care less. I've rolled in after a weekend at the track in full race trim with a broken front exhaust stud and they took care of it. But then again, the Buell tech was at the track with me along with both tge service write-ups. Guess it really is all in who you know. Lol Hope whatever is wrong with your bike gets taken care of with zero issues. | ||

Talked with service today about my bike. They took a look at it this morning and determined that it's the exhaust valve actuator. 5-7 days waiting now on the part. Well, at least it's raining most of this week so I'm not out too much riding. :-/ And I didn't hear any complaint about the breather bypass mod...whew! |
