I emailed Erik Buell Racing about an ECM for the special ops exhaust and they told me the drummer ecm would work perfectly. I installed it today and it has made a huge improvement. it has eliminated all backfiring and the bike runs very well. I'm happy!

It eliminated the backfire when you back off the throttle?

Nick how many miles have u put on your ecm?? Some ddfi3 bikes, including mine, leaned out big time from the ebr race ecm. Ebr is working to fix this issue and is reflashing mine now. How many miles so far? Still running strong at midrange and idling fine??

@ Krueger

I've put approximately 100 miles on the new ECM so far. The bike is running better than ever. The bike runs extremely well at midrange and has no issues at all.

One difference that I did notice was when I start up the bike, it fires up right away, but the RPMs are higher than the stock ECM. The new ECM hangs around 2000 RPMs and very slowly drops to ~1200 RPMs or so where the
stock ECM would settle around 1000 RPMs pretty quickly. I followed the service manual and performed a TPS reset after installing the new ECM.

I emailed Erik Buell Racing and they said this is intentional because it's actually better for the bike. The stock ECM has to follow emission laws.

Which exhaust and ECM do you have? Also, I'm running with a stock filter.

Regards,
Nick

I have a Pro Series filter, Erik Buell Racing ECM and a Special Ops exhaust on my '08 Scg. 0 decel popping, high rpm on warm up, well fed cylinders...runs beautifully. The only thing I am still trying to get used to is the '10 fan strategy. Erik Buell Racing said they would flash the former strategy if I wanted.

All is well.

That used to happen with the stock ecm, not this new ecm.

Hmm, I think your response was to Balrog. Thought it was regarding the latest fan strategy. My mistake.

Niceguyeddy,
After you get used to the new fan program, I believe you will really like it. My bike runs so much cooler now. The ambient air temp is way down and my comfort level is up. Example: After some hard riding in 87* weather, my group got caught in stop and go traffic. The CBR 600 next to me was getting really hot and the rider said he was burning up. I, on the other hand, was perfectly comfortable. Sure, there was a little heat, but nothing like the scorching hot frame of before. My fan wasn't even on. Before the new program, I would have been standing up to get my ass off the hot seat.

XBg, good to hear. It will still take a bit of getting used to it for me. Worth every penny.

I went on the Drummer site and did not see any Race ECM and I am interested in finding out about it. I do have a Drummer exhaust and k&N filter. Where did you see the ECM exactly?

xbgeorge: Are you saying that the drummer ecm reconfigures the fan controls? Thanks guys.

The ECM is a Erik Buell Racing product. They just tuned it specifically for a drummer or in my case, the special ops exhaust.

I just rode the bike today for 500 miles with this new ECM and I was surprised that I haven't lost any mpgs. I averaged 48 mpg today and I have another 800 miles of riding coming up this weekend.

984gasm,
The New fan program is on the 2010 ECMs and can be flashed on any 2008+ ECM. According to Niceguyeddy, it was on the Erik Buell Racing ecm.

Thanks guys! I will check out Erik's site and see what it says. My '04 lightning had the buell race ecm w/ the drummer and popped quite frequently. My new '10 lightning is doing the same thing w/ the new drummer exhaust. I would like to solve this the installing the new ecm from Erik as you guys seem to have done.
