I have been riding my 2002 Blast since new, still love it, but I am getting a 2007 XB9SX. Having been active on BadWeb in the thumper pages for years, I can tell you right off the bat what to watch out for on a Blast. Some of the most common problems include intake boot tears, isolator tears, motor mount bolts breaking and kick stand switch issues. The Thumper admins have compiled the most common mods to the intake/carb and exhaust on one page. Is there a page like that here on the XB boards? and what common problems do I need to keep an eye out for?

brake rotor pulse
isolators
voltage regulators
clutch adjustment boot tears (lets water in the primary)
clutch inspection cover gasket weeping
ear to ear grins
kick stand bolts
wheel bearings

chin fairing screws can tend to come loose
exhaust hanger straps should not be reused
front header bolts become a load point when they shouldn't with some pipes or broken straps.

Belts snapping
Melting headlights
Clutch cable snapping
Oil pump failure
Plug wire chaffing
Wiring harness breaks
Throttle body shaft failures
Issues checking oil
Rusty mufflers
Timing/pinging issues
Fouled plugs
Fuel pumps
Fan failures
Leaky engine gaskets
Oil consumption

Those are a few off the top of my head. The XB is nowhere near as reliable as the Blast, and it isn't as fun as the Blast either.

Froggy is being cereal....a blast is not fast, it does not handle as well as an xb, it does not stop as well as an xb...but it is more "fun" on a different scale....and Froggy can get like...a zilliom mpg on his.; )

Let's not forget the #77 connector from the voltage regulator that burns up. The upgraded connector is still working great for me though. Pretty easy fix.

Not a problem, but more of a good thing to have with your '07: ECMSpy and the data cable for it. Re-set your TPS, tune the fuel maps for smooth power delivery, read trouble codes. The xb's have sensorz 'n sh!t that the Blast does not have.

Cool! This is the info I needed. I see that Froggy is a go to guy here, like EZBlast (Ed) in the thumper forum. Since I never let the dealer do ANYTHING to my Blast, I am sure to be on here all the time. Especially if the XB is truly not as reliable as the Blast. .
The dealer is replacing the front rotor and pads, the primary cover has a JB Welded hole at the shift lever area, so they are replacing the whole cover, too. The airbox cover and fairing are cracked and they rattle. I would love a hero blue x-guard cover and fairing, mine is "kicked ash" now. But it looks expensive, and I bet they are disappearing from stock as we type!

no problem, class gets out late anyway : )

and yep froggy is the one with lots of answers around here. (I hear that he is in the know on the 1125 side too)

froggy I thought it was only the firebolts that melted headlights?

and wasn't the oil pump drive gear updated by 07? or is there another problem with the oil pumps?

clutch cable snapping
yep did that last sat

don't know how stiff the clutch pull is on a blast but many consider getting a hydraulic clutch conversion or a new ball ramp.

Clutch pull on the Blast is Perfect. I don't know how the engineers did it, but I tip my hat to them for getting a really great clutch pull for the Blast... not light, not heavy, just right.
