Yep, it's true. After doing over fifty mods to the bike, including Hals competition swing arm chain conversion, full Ohlins suspension, clubman's bars, R tail section and everything else you could imagine, I am finding I am not riding the bike much since I got my 2005 Ducati 999S. Actually, the Buell handles just about as well as the Duc, but I like the looks of the Ducati, the engine, and of course, like any new mistress, the newness of her.  I don't want to part it out, and I don't want to give it away, but I think it would be a great bike for someone who is thinking of doing track days or racing, neither of which I am doing any more. Anybody interested? Without boasting overly, I don't think there are too many Buells out there that are set up more carefully. Kindly see my profile for details.  | ||

i know how proud of he you are jim. but why wouldn't you just keep it because she is what she is. oh yea, since i'm sure someone will ask you this, i might as well be the first,do you want to sell your select seat. | ||

Thanks Neil, If I were a little younger, I wouldn't even think of selling it, because I know it will definitely become a classic in years to come, and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up keeping it on a stand in my living room. I dont know you personally, but I will just say... Dont do it! What are you thinking! That is one sweet ride you have alot of work into, that is not replaceable! Park her somewhere safe for a month and see how you miss her first. Damn I really hope you come to your senses!  | ||

The problem you are going to have is finding someone that wants the exact same mods, otherwise it reduces the price significantly. You might be better off putting it back to stock (if you have all the parts) and selling the extra stuff to the guys that want it. | ||

That is about the best looking Buell XB I have ever seen and there is some serious thought that went into that bike with no expense spared. I hate to see it leave as well. | ||

i to vote you keep it! that bike is way to nice and you seemed to put way to much thought and time into making it what it is, if you can afford to keep it you should! if for nothing else you should put it on display in your living room because its a very good looking bike! | ||

Thanks everyone, (except Jim of course: I do NOT want your Vespa, and you know it:-). Been there done that: my very first motorized two wheeler was a Lambretta:-) It doesn't look like Lil Blackie is going anywhere soon. Cbig: Good question about the Ohlins. To many people, myself included, they have always seemed like a bit of a high priced mystery: all the racers seem to use them, (sometimes they even put Ohlins internals into stock looking forks), but there are no obvious specifications that one might point to that explain why they are so popular with the high performance crowd. In addition other companies are capable of making very good suspension. I believe Erik Buell has said that Showa, the supplier to Buell and Harley, as well as many Japanese manufacturers, has first quality stuff if you know how to get it from them. Showa now has a new "big piston" fork that is supposed to be a big improvement, and I believe they are used by Erik Buell Racing. But to get to the heart of your question, " what did the Ohlins do for you that the stock suspension does not", the answer is that they just do everything better. By that I mean that they absorb bumps more completely, so that the bike feels more planted, and does not get upset as much, especially when going over bumps at the entrance or in the middle of a turn. I am not sure why they do that, I have been told that it is just better valves, and closer tolerances. In addition, it is pretty easy and fast to change the springs on an Ohlins front fork, as no spring compressor is required. | ||

Jon- Do the Olins do a better job at absorbing the square edged bumps, the short, high speed hits? The bike seems ok as is for the low speed circuit.. Maybe a revalve is in order on the rear showa shock and front shim stack.. |
