I am trying to take a look at my plugs. Service manual say 5/8" bit but it isn't big enough. Closest Ive been is a 18mm but a little too big.

Anyone run into this?

I looked in the knowledge vault but only found some vague answer about tracking down a high end 18mm plugs bit..

stock sparkplug (10R12) has a 5/8 hex. aftermarket plugs can vary...

The Pro Series plugs must be in my bike because the 5/8 hex doesn't fit. Same result with the out of the box new ones.

Jason it is a 5/8th bit, but you need a wooble extension to get it on right. becareful once you get the rear out...its a goof to get back in

Brian,

Trust me, the 5/8 doesnt clear the hex on the plugs, not even the Pro Series plugs I am holding in my hand. 18mm is only bit that will fit around it. I can take pictures if no one beleives me.

after you break it loose , and going in , use a foot of oil line. it bends nice and doesn't break the porcielen, and will stop before cross threading.
ps i wouldn't use the braided line. lol

Thanks Pilk,

11/16 worked like a champ. I changed both plugs out this morning...Rear was the most fun I've had in a long time.

Jason -- you're right -- the Pro plugs are NOT 5/8, but 11/16... I just changed over on Friday and ran into the same problem...

Steve.
