what is everyone's opinion about exhaust, I currently the factory racing exhaust on my firebolt, but I'm looking for opinions on what is better for sound quality and performance.

You have the best one out there on your bike right now for performance. As far as sound my vote is with a drummer, but remember this is only my opinion. I am sure others will chime in with theirs also.

I was looking at the American Sport Bike report today, the Buell race exhaust (at least on the 9 motors) has a huge glitch in the power and torque that really bothered me, not sure if you would feel this or not in real use but it looks bad on the charts.

DISCLAIMER:Butt Dyno Report.

Greg, you'll feel it. I had the full factory race kit on last fall. 2-4k it had crap for torque, at 4500 it hit like a freight train (in the lower gears). Hitting the rev limiter through the first 4 gears was fairly trivial. I loved the exhaust note, and hated the air box delete noise. Absolutely no drivability problems beyond no low end torque.

On a lark, I changed it all out to stock (including snorkel) and took it for a ride. It only took me 15 seat minutes to decide which was the better setup for me. I can run at 2k in high and roll it on and the bike goes. The power band is smoother. Less gear changes required. Again, zero drivability issues.

I think there are good reasons the Buell folks put those tiny headers and that huge muffler on this bike, beyond EPA restrictions. Those quirks you see in the shootout are there.

I had a race can and race ecm on my 06 Uly, there was a flat spot between 3k and 4k, but it never bothered me.

As a hypermiler, Froggy, I'd be surprised if you even noticed.

And on a Uly - why?

Whats wrong with a race can on a Uly? I got a Micron on now. It is nice, no flat spot, and usable power all the way down to my 700rpm idle. : )

30mpg is more realistic without significant modifications, but you can bet your ass if I had an unlimited budget I could get 50mpg : )

We were talking about a factory race can, not a Micron. See OP. Now if we could get the OP to update his profile, we'd know what Firebolt he was talking about - 9 or 12. It does make a difference. As I only own the 9, I can only comment on my experience with that model.

And if you're idling at 700 rpm, I don't want your used bike.
