Hi,

I have my wheels off for the first time. I have the orange wheel bearings on my 03 with 15500 miles. The front bearings turn freely, not spin but turn easily. The rear bearings require a significant amount of finger pressure to get them to turn a quarter turn. They will turn nonetheless just very tight and firm. They don't feel dirty or hesitate any in the rotation. What is considered normal?

I understand they are not serviceable but if they are bad can't I hammer in new ones with a mallet and a block of wood to keep them straight for install?

If you think my bearings need replacement, do you happen to have part numbers?

duly thankful

I would not hammer any bearings in. They should be pulled in with the proper tool that concurrently pushes the inner and outer race. Hammering the bearings in will not allow the control required to not overload the inner race when it contacts the spacer. The outer race of the last bearing to be installed may not contact the bore landing depending on the length of the spacer and tolerance stack up.

But that's me.

1. My rear bearings are the same way, and they are fine as long as they don't grind at all. Once the wheel is mounted, it will be very easy to turn.
2.Use the bearing tool. If you smack them with a hammer and 2x4, they may be destroyed before you even have the axle torqued.
