i've seem pictures were some people have taken a dremel tool to their air box and cut out the buell letters and then have attached mesh wire or something from the inside, i was wondering if this would effect the cooling at all. i think it looks kind of cool (and would look even cooler if somebody did it and put some neon lights inside the airbox so it would glow at night!) | ||

Why would it affect cooling? In other words, no. (and would look even cooler if somebody did it and put some neon lights inside the airbox so it would glow at night!) Been done, but I think they used LED instead. | ||

use the search i know there was a thread on the l.e.d. airbox last year. The transparent ones were especially awesome although illegal in some states. | ||

alright guys i've searched it a bit and found a few threads  i dont really want to do that much to mine, but something along those lines. from reading through some of the threads with mods like this, i kept reading about how it is loud after cutting open your airbox cover like that. what makes it loud? people were also talking about how this can create a vacuum like effect within, which doesnt sound all good?.....so i know i've already asked this, but would cutting up an airbox cover without doing anything else to the airbox effect how it runs or gets cooled in any way? | ||

The induction noise is what would be louder. Not sure about vacuum effect, i doubt cutting holes in the air box similar to the above pic would have any ill effects for air flow. I would have thought with extra holes would allow greater air pressure inside the air box. The faster the bike is going would result in higher pressure, its not as if air just flows straight through the airbox, although the mod in that pic would not have a lot of restriction at the back of the box. Air temp could be very slightly lower due to better flow but i dont think there would be a noteable drop in engine temp due to that mod. I think a RSS would be more effective for cooling the engine. I have a bunch of holes in my inner air box cover. Not the outer. It sounds like angry Chewbacca. WFO, it sounds AWESOME! I dont think it would create a significant enough vacuum to effect performance. | ||

Inner cover or outer? Outer should not affect performance at all unless inner is also hacked open. | ||

I've cut the letters out, used blue LED's in there also. No effect on cooling because of the base plate on the airbox. The noise is something else, very cool at first, but then I started doing long distance stuff. It got to be an earful. The intake honk along with a good sounding pipe is very impressive. I'm not at home right now or I'd post up a picture. | ||

I bought some gutter mesh from Lowe's hardware and painted it with the rest of the bike. I Still have that airbox sitting out in the shed! Thinking about repainting the bike this winter! | ||
