My 07 Uly has developed an oil leak from the rear rocker box at 14m miles. Didn't find much in the archives except some of you use Cometic gaskets. Anything wrong with the Buell or HD brand? Are Sportster and Buell gaskets the same?
This older guy would appreciate your opinions.

I always recommend Cometic.
The OEM gaskets are OK and will work fine for rocker boxes, but if you're taking the time to do it yourself, do it as best you can.
The Cometic will last longer.

One tip free of charge ; )
If you let the bike warm up before you ride, the base gasket and rocker gaskets will last longer.

Replaced mine twice with the OEM gaskets for the rockerbox COVER gasket. It can be difficult to tell where the leak is coming from...rockerbox cover or the gasket below the rockerbox. Anyway, while installing the cover gasket for the second time I noted that there was flashing on what is supposed to be, the polished inner lip of the gasket channel. The unfinished surface was allowing oil to seep up and into the channel. It eventually seeped past the orange gasket and past the second lip (which probably also couldn't seal closed due to the inner lip flashing as well. Oil would come out the back of the rockerbox cover, run down the back of the rockerbox and pool at the edge of the rockerbox lower gasket. Long way of saying I believe many of these rear rockerbox leaks may be cover gasket leaks due to poor finishing of the polished mating surfaces. Good luck.

Just got the engine rotated today. Haven't pulled the cover or box off yet. Will look at the condition of the gasket channel. Thanks

My XB12r is in the shop right now having the rocker box gasket replaced. It is warranty work as well at just over 10K miles. The leak was bad enough that it also took out the fan.

I've had issues with 2 HD dealers/service dept. 2 different bikes, so decided to do this myself, even though it's still on warranty. Maybe it's just me?
I didn't find anything really obvious other than it looks like the boxes/cover have been moving. Expansion/contraction?
I'd like to know if you guys have leaks again on down the road.
I really like my Buell! Don't think there is a bike to replace it with. I'd rather replace gaskets every couple years.
