The other day I removed the seat after great difficulty and noticed granular aluminum. The mounting tabs are too wide it appears for the studs and are grinding the aluminum subframe, As well as the bit of plastic on the tabs. There is no adjustability in those mounting tabs. Has anyone else had this problem before? Maybe drill/mill the tab's screw hole into a slot so it can be mated to the subframe? I guess the seat supplier was a bit off when they made it. The plastic seat base and subframe also grind a bit on the sides from rough edges of the casting. | ||

I have an '06 Uly. The original seat fit perfectly - on and off with no fiddling whatsoever. Recently, I got a "low" seat from another Uly rider in order to try to tame the gargantuan seat height. It takes an act of god to get it on, and it fits very poorly on the right side, creating a large gap between the seat gracing me with a tremendous amount of heat from the head. Not an issue with original seat. I don't have a solution for you unfortunately. Just thought I'd gripe and moan a bit. | ||

Can you post a pic or two? It's been a while since I fiddled with an S seat. I wonder if they tried to address the loose fit of the earlier models, and over did it. Mine always fit loose, and never looked like it really fit if you looked at where it was supposed meet the "tank" I got a Street Fighter seat soon after, and it fit much better. | ||

Ok, got some pics taken and tried measuring the seat bracket distances. Looks like the mounting screws are 9 1/16" apart. The hooks are 8 1/16 with the metal 1/8" thick and the plastic making it about 5/32. All measurements as close as I could eyeball. Inside edge to inside edge on the hooks: metal 7 & 31/32" plastic 7 & 15/16". Maybe someone in the know can tell by that how much things are off. Now to attempt the pic links.            | ||

Mine has been doing that since day 1. I never worried too much about it because I figured the plastic will never stay on the tabs anyway (could be wrong here) and the aluminum of the rear rails is under the seat so it's hidden. It has seemed to get to a point where it's stopped getting any worse. Hemicbx | ||

The concerning part to me is steel bearing on the aluminum instead on the steel it should. Guess I'll open the holes up a bit and try to mate the connecting points. Should eliminate the aluminum destruction and make the seat easier to remove. |
