It would be great if someone made a device that tricked the ECM into thinking that the AFR was at 14.7 when it was really at say, 13.5 or so.

To me, that would be perfect - our bikes run way too lean.

14.7 is not optimal at all throttle positions

They are decent on bikes without feedback loops (no 02 sensor). Got rid of a cruise rpm lean stumble on my VRod.

On my Buell, though, I would think it would only work until the 02 sensor heated up. Then I think a self defeating cycle would start. The Dobeck inserts a longer pulse (richens it), the 02 sensor reads that and tells the computer which then shortens the cycle until the lengthened Dobeck signal gives the computer what it wanted in the first place. Did I say that right ? Maybe not but I'd say the short answer is NO, that style of tuner won't work.

Yes everything I have read over the years shows these piggyback units don't work well. They may work for a little while, but then slowly get worse and worse, next thing you know your bike is running like crap.

I had one of the early ones.
In a nutshell, piece of $#it.
I'd tune it, it'd run fine, then the next day, it'd run like $#it, tune it again, run fine, then back again.
If they've changed it, I still wouldn't bother, because of all the crap I went through with it.
Their customer service while being nice people, weren't any help.
YMMV

I added this

I have open airbox/exhaust and race ecm too. Can't get my bike to pop anymore and the throttle is very smooth. Just plug it in and you're done. Email me if you want more details.

With the Force Exhaust I'd highly recommend getting it professionally Dynotuned.
That's a seriously free flowing exhaust, as free flowing as it is loud.
I'd hate to see just how lean your bike is running.
I'm surprised the only issue is a hiccup.

I may not be understanding this but... why not just change the rich/midpoint/lean voltages on your O2 sensor with ECMSpy? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing?

The TFI was sold as a "plug and play" type device. It was around long before anyone had learned how to interface with the ECM.
Also, if it worked well, you'd not be in much danger of frying anything, or corrupting the ECM data, all it was supposed to do was enrich the system.
The Remus is a different story, while also being a piggyback, it actually works as a plug and play.
I've heard really good things about them, even when not using Remus exhaust.
It's really popular across the pond.
