Is it normal while holding the front brake and trying to rock back and forth and you feel and here a small clunk? It started around 10k but the DEALER says it`s normal!!!! | ||

They need to re torque the steering head bearings. My 1125 was doing it at 5,000 miles I now have 6500 miles. My firebolt did it as well. Some harley dealers dont have actual buell mechanics to look for these little things. (Message edited by freezerburn840 on April 07, 2010) | ||

Luckily my dealer does. They have two buell mechanics that have been wrenching on them since the Tuber days. | ||

I have a repair manual but I cant seem to find where the talk about play and how to retorque it. Thanks for the reply`s | ||

Its usually the floating front disc not the head bearing making the clunk. | ||

My XB does it too. I was told it was normal, that the clunk was from the front rotor, or the inside of the forks. IT'S NOT the Steering Head. I've been down that road. | ||

Adam: Did you have your bearing tightened and it still made the noise? and then came to the conclusion it`s normal?. If it`s normal my question is why did it not make any sound for the first 10k? | ||

I tightened and re-tightened the steering head about 6-7 times, and the click was still there. When I took off my forks and trees for PC, I checked the bearings and they were fine. I then called Hal's HD and spoke with Dan Blanski, whom is an excellent tech, and races these bikes. He hold me this was normal. I took his word for it. Maybe this is something that happens over time? I only have 6K on the clock and it does it. But I have tested out other brand new 08's and 09's and they don't. | ||

It could be the forks. I guess there is a couple of things it could be. Head bearings were my problem. | ||

Head bearings, forks, brake rotor can all do it. It is normal and nothing to worry about. I also suggest you stop holding the front brake and shaking the bike, it makes you look like you have MS when you are sitting at a light  | ||

To tighten the head bearing, is it the cap nut under the handle bars? | ||

Yeah, but you have to take the weight off of the front wheel and loosen up all of the pinch bolts on the forks. Then you can retorque the head. | ||
