Fellow 12R junkie Darksaber15 went down yesterday. He had a tank-slapper that resulted in a badly broken leg and is bummed probably won't make Homecoming now. Bike's toast, and he says the next one (oh yes there will be a next one) will definitely have a steering damper! Anyways, wish him well y'all and ride safe. The riding gear saved him from all but one scratch! -Nadz

That sucks. I feel his pain, literally. Hopefully he doesn't need a set of these. I'm still learning how to use them.

Terrible news! I hope he's doing ok I had a really bad parachuting accident in 2005 that turned my leg around backwards from the knee down so I KNOW how painful that can be.

I asked the same question, the plate wraps around the bone and the position of the X-Ray makes it appear as if it's floating there. I checked the surgery photos to verify that the screw was in fact secured to the plate and it is.

***I asked my surgeon to take my camera and take pictures of the plate/screws while I was opened up in the OR. She was hands down one of the best DRs I've ever had. She laughed at said "Well, I've never had anyone ask for me to photograph my handy work before, I'll snap a couple of pictures before we close you up then."

I won't post them because they are very graphic photos. But short answer... yes all six screws are seated properly, the plate twists around to conform to the bone structure.

My buddies at the unit used to call me Lego leg. They said the X-Ray looks like i stepped on a Lego land mine. lol

Awesome Geforce!

My Dr. wouldn't take pics for me when my arm was shattered. I asked as well. I wanted before and after pics. He did however describe it as "shit everywhere".

This is what happens when you slap a guys hip too hard playing flag football. Spun my arm around where you see the break there. I pulled the flag though! Still have it!

sorry to hear that, my husband had I violent tank slapper last week on his xb12r and I thougt he was going down for sure, as I followed him on my 1340. But fortunately he recovered. Some deer ran across the road and we had to break hard, what exactly caused your crash.

Wow NOT good! Do you know if it was from high speed or engine mount failure?

Hey guys, thanks for all the well-wishes! I just got home about an hour ago after spending 4 days in the hospital. The tank slapper happened as I was riding over a little knoll that had a slight downward slope on the other side. I was on my way to work and have ridden that road a hundred times before. I think my front wheel floated slightly and the handle bar oscillations started. They were so violent, all I could do was hang on until I hit the dirt on the side of the road and then was vaulted over 120 feet into the woods. I pulled off the lid and gloves and tried to call 911 but had no service, so I had to drag myself back to the road to flag down a car.

Bike is in 2 pieces, and I have 6 breakes all on my right leg: my femer is broken in one place and my tib/fib in a total of 5. Foot ankle, knee and hip are all fine. No other injuries to the rest of my body. I had on my HJC carbon fiber (FS-15) lid, and two piece Vanson leather gear, plus armored Olympia gloves and skechers work shoes (wish I had boots on now!)

Helmet is gone but all the leathers and even shoes are 100% I have a bunch of 'Bolt bags and even brand new, never used Corbin front and rear seats that I will be posting for anyone interested.

Also I have my xrays and pics of the bike I haven't seen yet that I will post up within a few days for your enjoyment. I have a long recovery in front of me but I will hopefully go bike shopping on the one year anniversary of the wreck, April 2, 2011. Thanks again all, and I'll post up again soon.

As stated above, I feel ya bro. I'll be doing the same thing come Christmas of this year as far as buying a new bike. You've got some major hardware installed now man. You'll never break that leg again. I had a rod placed inside my tib from the knee down and a rod placed inside my fib from the ankle up. All I could imagine was that doctor standing on the table, ass in my face, with a 20lb sledge just slamming away.

Good to hear your in good spirits. Yes, it's going to take awhile. Once back in shape, hop right back in that saddle bro. Good luck and try to pace yourself with the pain killers. They'll lock you up in you know what I mean. lol

It makes you wonder if the xb buells have some inherint design faults as alot of riders seem to crash on a regular basis for due to tank slappers. I never had happen to me and my husband told me he only had that happen on an old cb350 he had as a kid. He told his BUSA never does it no matter how hard he rides it and none of his other jap sport bikes ever developed tank slappers at such low speed.

he order a gpr dampener and installed in last weekend. So we will see if it helps.
