i just got my xb9 yesterday and on the way home i noticed that when i break at higher speeds the forks rattle in like the triple tree area, so i pulled over and took a closer look and noticed some play in there. where do i tighten it down? or is it worse than haveing to just tighten iT?

Might it be the steering head bearings?
I'll see if I can find the steps to tighten it.
I doubt the forks are loose in the triples.

lift the bike's front
loosen the triples
loosen the steering head capnut
tighten the capnut to 18 ft/lbs
tighten the triples
let the bike back down

I can't find my book, but this is what I have in my notes.
Can someone that has a book verify?

If no one responds by the time I get home I can get the torque #'s for you.

Steering stem cap is 38-42 ft-lbs
steering stem Pinch fastener is 17-19 ft-lbs
that is from pg 2-48 in my 03 XB9R Manuel.
Hope it helps.

That would be the big silver one on top right in the middle of the triple clamp. I would guess it is the one you tightened to 19 ft-lbs. Hate to have you tear everything down again, but sounds like you should. Good luck and safe riding!!

the one that is 19 is the pinch bolt. That is the bolt that helps keep the Big Silver one from getting loose. If that was loose that would explaine why the silver one would be loose.

JUst be careful on the Pinch bolt have heard of some that used the factory torque settings and either their wrench was off or thats too much torque and some have split their top trees by doing so fwiw.!
