what is norris performance?

Mike Norris, great guy.
He used to (may still) did/does the machining for Kevin Drum.
He made this for me.

I also got my catch can from him.
It's just like that one, but without any logo.

i kinda feel dumb as I always thought the norris catch cans and the drummer catch cans were made by different people (even though they look the same.) But I guess they are in fact the same if he worked for kevin.

Ok, then... I'll be the dummy. What's the benefit of the catch can and breather modification? Why not just leave it stock?

Hello Ghostrider,
The EPA thought it was a nice idea to try and incinerate the crankcase gases that come from blowby, that is the burnt and not burnt gas that escapes past the piston rings into your crankcase. Splooge is the moisture in this gas that combines with the oil in your engine. The EPA would have the gas and splooge sent through your throttle body and back into the combustion chamber for another go round. We who spend good money on filters and such to have a clean combustion chamber take offense to all of this. Some of us vent the gas and splooge to the atmosphere directly. Others of us vent the gases through a filter and catch can to the atmosphere and try to catch the splooge to put in the trash at the gas station. A catch can will keep the slippery juice off the race track. By not running the gases back through the engine it makes more room in the combustion chamber for more air and fuel. Small gain, but a gain none the less. I hope this helps.

Also it can help with low RPM drivabilty as its not sucking in all that hot and dirty air. My bike idles at 750rpm, and I can cruise down to about 1200rpm fine.

Is this the place:

I like the round catch cans and wonder if they would cut the length down for fitting my 9R.

That's him.
You can ask, a "no" answer is the worst that could happen.
I'm sure it'll cost ya for a one off though.

Once you do the mod, are there any resets that need to be done to the ECM, or does it self adjust? SOunds Like I may be getting some parts this weekend for a breather reroute!

Any adjusting will be self adjusted by the ECM.

Mike Norris used to make the Norris Performance catch cans for both American Sport Bike and KDFab. They were the same, just had engraving differences. Mike went out of business, sold the design to American Sport Bike, and we have them fabricated from models created from his original files. Jerseyguy cloned the design with some minor changes for Kevin and they're machined somewhere else for KDFab. Mike isn't involved with either any more. It's been quite a while since we've heard from him. Either way, it's a cool XB specific design that elegantly solves the problem in a stealthy but not particularly inexpensive way.

Is that really the same Mike Norris at that Vette shop? Some things didn't seem to add up reading about them. If I had to guess, I'd bet it's a different Mike Norris, but could be wrong.

I've gotten 75mpg on my best tank with an American Sport Bike catch can, so the answer is no : )

I actually do plan on temporally putting mine back to stock to see if I get any measurable changes.

I just noticed today that on my 06, I am not getting the mileage I thought I was getting. 35 mpg : ( The motor was out and went through a rebuild about 200 miles ago. I did a lot of two up riding, but didn't think that would affect it too much. I topped it off just a while ago and will wait to see what single riding numbers bring up.

Jstfkndi, I think you may need to break it in again. Your mileage should progressively improve.

I hope your right Gunut!! What is it again? about 3 miles before you go above 5K RPM? ; ) I am trying real hard not to flog it, but I think I've been pretty modest between straight up highway and short city stints. I feel I want to do this breather mod though. Doesn't seem right that hot gases get put back in the chamber, when this thing already cooks my legs!

Is it okay to get the catch can filter wet when washing the bike or riding in the rain? Thanks in advance.

I just built a custom breather box.

I think it turned out decent (it does its job)

I wanted to maximize volume while fitting into the tight space next to the oil cooler, so... form followed function and it turned out to be a custom, perfectly fit box that fits flush, mimicking the bracket shape.

I wanted to keep the box breathable, but at the same time, create as much vacuum as possible, so I routed the filter under the left hand scoop (between the scoop and the oil cooler), having the filter face backwards, having the air draw over it, not push into it.

It has a plug at the bottom, and seems to be collecting all sorts of junk.
