Put a used race ECM in my 2004 XB12S. Started it up to load it and it ran great. Got it to the dealer to reset the TPS as advised.
After the reset the bike varies its RPM up and down about 1000RPMs in range. If you open the throttle to say 4K it will go 4K to 3K and back to 4K constantly.. Any ideas? I wish I hadn't touched it but don't know how to go back..

I have had that happen after doing a TPS reset. Just turn the idle screw CCW to your desired idle RPM, which should be around 1050-1150. I think its from not holding the throttle fully closed while doing the reset.

That doesn't help.. Its up and down with the rpms. Doesn't hold a smooth rpm at all. going to do the TPS reset again tomorrow. I took the air box off so I know the throttle is completely closed.

Do a little research on ECMSpy, download the tuning guide. The guide has step by step instructions for the TPS reset. PM me and I'll help you find the software if you feel you can do the reset.

I agree. Had the same symptoms a couple of weeks ago on mine, 'cause I didn't have the throttle closed all the way. New reset fixed 'er up.

I bought the Technoresearch software from a board sponsor back in 2004 that allows me to Rezero the TPS Sensor.

For 2008 and later Buell twins TPS reset is built-in and very simple.

Buell TPS Reset/Rezero Procedure for 2008 & later Buell XBikes and 1125R/CR motorcycles:

The Buell TPS reset for 2008, 2009, or 2010 Buell twins is simple but requires that you precisely perform the following procedure, step-by-step, exactly as described:

0. Begin with the the ignition off, key out, and the run/stop switch in the "stop/off" position.

1. Switch the Run/Stop switch to the "Run" position.

2. Insert ingition key and turn it to the "on" position. Do not start or turn over the engine.

3. Rotate the throttle grip from the closed throttle position to the wide open throttle position hold for one second then rotate back to closed position and hold for one second. Repeat that exact throttle action two more times (three total open/hold-closed/hold cycles) holding the throttle grip gently against each stop for one full second.

4. Cycle the key off and back on.

You've just completed a TPS reset for your 2008 or later Buell motorcycle. Start your bike and ride.
