What would cause shifting to be harder inbetween a specific set of gears, and usually only on upshifts (although that could just be the nature of upshifts).

I preload the shifter and feel I shift pretty efficiently but 2nd-3rd is much harser than the other shifts, even more so than 1st-2nd, and its the only one I ever get a false neutral on.

Checked your primary chain slack?
Changed the primary oil lately?

It wouldn't hurt to check your clutch adjustment. If it's out of adjustment, that can cause false neutrals, hard shifts also.

I also read before you shouldn't preload the shift lever on a Buell. I don't know if there's any truth to that statement though.

Good luck with the problem.

It means to put pressure on the shifter before you shift.
Makes shifting faster.

Also makes it smoother...

Going to try redline oil next (currently using Formula + in tranny)...

Don't know if its marketing stuff but it says it has some shock reducing additives (tranny oil) we will see how that works.

Just make damn sure that anything you put in the transmission does NOT contain SULPHUR COMPOUNDS....if you do, the sulphur will destroy the windings in the alternator stator.

I use Mobil-1 V-twin oil..I used it in the Mighty Blast and it helped the shifting some.....but next time I may go with Formula+ on the advice of a highly experienced tech that says he has tried every kind of lube in the effort to improve his customer service...I have no idea what lube came in my bike (bought it used...the HD shop said they serviced it before they sold it to me, but can't specify what they used)

so if i was shifting from 2 to 3 then put upward pressure under the shift peg then pull the clutch in and continue thru the shift.
