well after about 16k miles of riding i finally had a mishap! me and a friend were riding down this curvey hill (which i wasnt familiar with to start with. which was my first mistake). and you could probably do about 25ish down the whole rode. which is about the pace i was going.

while going down the hill i was going through a 90 degree downhill turn and hit some gravel while leaned over. my bike started to slide sideways and i went into the other lane, and before i could stop i hit the curb on the side of the road. and flew off the bike about 8 feet and my bike slid about ten feet along the curb. i'm perfectly fine physically only the pride hurts. my leg is a little sore and i've got a nice scratch on my back, but nothing i wont bounce back from.

as far as the bike goes it held up better than i woulda guessed through it all to. it slid along the curb and scratched up my air intake peice pretty good, and the plastic piece below that (not sure what its called). my bottom cowl has a few scratches in it, but nothing that you cant bufffer out and make look better. my left blinker is broke which isnt to big of a deal either. what concerns me about it was the fact that i snapped my clutch lever and some little black thing thats attatched to the lever is partly broken. so i'll have to replace those. and part two that bothers me is the shifter peg and hardwar is compleately broken it snapped the screw that attaches the case cover thing, so with a broken clutch and shifter i could barely get in onto the trailer. had to pull the clutch cable out by hand to make the bike move, and i couldnt get it to shift into any other gears or neutral (its in second right now i believe) does that mean my transmition is screwed up? (i really hope not!) the frame is fine, nothing really happened to it the swing arm is fine as well. my bars arent twisted or anything so they are good, so as long as my transmitions not screwed up i think it wont be to bad a fix.

but like i said since i couldnt get it into gear by just pushing up or down on the clamp thing that is on the case cover i'm a little worried what is all of your take on that part?

and the clutch thing wont be to expensive of a fix as far as i can guess and honestly the two black plastic peices wont be hard to replace (i dont even need to if i dont want to)

BTW if anybody has any parts i need let me know! we can work something out i'm sure!

Glad to hear your doin OK. I'm not sure about the shifter deal. Were you trying to roll the bike back and forth a little while you were trying to shift it? That usually helps. If it dosen't move at all, then I'm not sure. I need to road test my shifter a little more, but I might be able to loan ya the stock unit till you find another one.

Trust me, I know how tough the XB's are.
Your transmission is probably fine, just bound up from the fall and the hardware being broken.
While you're taking it all apart, take a good look at the hole the gear lever threads into the case.
If that's broken, or stripped, you may need to get a new case.
Good news: The case is real easy to remove/replace.

Glad to hear you're ok!!!

bet me $50 to that it takes less than fifty dollars to make good as new...hmmmm.....I'll have to do some mathematical shopping to make this work out to were i don't loose any money haha

but yes I'm very glad I'm OK as well (so are my parents! it could have been way worse than it was!
1. there could have been a car in the other lane
2. i coulda had a worse landing/bail from the bike and ended up hurt
3. the bike could have been in way worse condition

and FYI when i got the bike it had previously been dropped on its left side before, and the shifter peg itself (just the part you put your toe under) had been snapped in two and my dad kept griping about how it was nothing but a stub and hard to get your toe under to shift up and that i should replace it....well now i guess i have to!

glad to hear your ok today, you'll more than likely feel it in the morning so take some motrim or something to head it off. i hope it doesn't take no more than fiddy to fix your bike. cause if it aint that bad, you don't want to have to turn it into the insurance. been there, done that.

neverenuf- while i was sitting on the side of the road waiting for my dad to come with the trailer a cop stopped by asking if i was alright and everything and if i wanted a report written up, i said no i didnt. i only have comp on my bike so insurance wouldnt have helped with it most anyway. it would just jack up my rate and 360 a year for comp is enough cash leaving my pocket already haha

Raptor- i called the harley dealership today to see how much some of the stuff i need would run me, the guy i talked to seemed a little bit out of the loop, but when i asked him how much the clutch bracket was and he told me like $6....seemed pretty cheap to me for the part so not sure if he looked up the right one or not....but if its only $6 for one i'll pick up a brand new one of those and find a random lever somwere...my actual cable is still good

Thank goodness you are ok. It happens to the best of us.

As the the saying goes, two types of riders, those who have been down & those who are going down.

You've got yours out of the way. Heal up, fix your bike, learn from this, and enjoy your Buell.

BeLinda.

Iman I have a takeoff clutch lever with perch and shift lever that I can hook you up with. both are used. and well you know the deal.

I hope you were wearing the boots, and that they did the job they were intended for.

I broke my shifter when I went down. I did everything in my power to get that bike to shift gears, including screwing up the splines on the shift-shaft with vice-grips. It shifted fine as soon as I put it back together, but wouldn't shift for anything without that shift assembly put together. Speaking of which, anybody ever replace their shift shaft?

aaron- i may just buy some parts new depending on what it all comes out to be (going to call the dealer again today) and get some more prices (he quoted me on the air scoop $25 yesterday, the oil coller cover $12 blinkers $14 and like i said he said $6 for the clutch bracket, but not sure if he looked up the right part, that seems pretty cheap to me. but if it doesnt work out i'll hit up badweb for what i dont buy new i've got some emails from a few people aready regarding parts, and a guy named KCfirebolt (i think that was his SN) has a lot of the parts i need if i dont buy new. And yes i always wear those boots when i ride! havent been on the buell without them! they worked great! my feet are in perfect shape! (my shin huts somewhat from hitting w/e it hit but its just bruised) although i had to clean the boots off after the accident, they were muddy

drkside, i will probably buy a new helmet, mine looks fine cosmetically but i'm not going to trust it anymore. i'll do some shopping around for one

and jandj, thats good to hear about you not being able to get it to shift either till you actually fixed the linkage

is there a good way to tell if you have a bent rim? i dont think i do seeing as theres not a scratch on my rim or forks or anything, but just want to make sure. should i just look out for air leaking out? or just wait till i ride it again?

For the front, jack up the bike just enough to be able to spin the wheel.
Take a piece of 2X4, and drive a nail all the way through, so it sticks out the other side.
Place the 2X4 beside the wheel with the nail just almost touching the rim.
Spin the wheel, and watch to see if the nail hits the rim, or "runs" away from it.
Do the same with the rear, but you'll have to take it off the belt to get it to spin freely.

glitch thanks!

also further inspection of the bikes battle wounds with the curb show that my clutch bracket is in fact fine, but my lever is still snapped so that was pleasing. on the other hand i have some scuffed plastic to, its not horrible just the bottom cowl has some scratches, and the underside of my sub-frame (pretty close to my key hole for the rear seat) also has scratches, I'm going to try to wet sand it to get it looking better.

what is the process for wet sanding? is it obvious and do i more or less use wet sand paper? or is that just me being ignorant? lol.

and delta_one, i'm probably going to just go to one of the local shops and try on some helmets and find one i like (i liked the last one i had and it was just a plain hjc helmet and i got it for a good price, i may go with the same one again..who knows). Helmets are the one piece of gear that I'd prefer to buy brand new so i know its history (not saying your lying about its condition or history or anything, just how i roll)

These bikes crash fairly well. I think you will be fine. I left the battle scars on my bike, and even get compliments on them.
