I put my Special OPS pipe on last night, let the bike run for a little bit, and then went for a ride. About five miles into the ride my check engine light came on. Is that normal for the ecm to try and catch up with them new exhaust? Also I had a xb9sx before and the fan would only kick on when I would stop but with my 12 it kicks on while driving. Is that normal for such a small ride?

You need to pull the code to see why the check engine light came on. My guess is that its related to the muffler valve.

The 2010's have different fan control logic than previous years, most the the fan operation will be at speeds above 15mph.

I'm going to take it to the HD shop here tonight but shouldn't the valve still be operational?

My new 09 xb12ss fan comes on and runs constant after about 15 mph. I, like you was used to my 03 xb's fan that would run after shut down . I have a new Spec ops pipe too that i havent ridden yet. Started it once when really cold and the oil light came on and fouled a plug. Im waiting for warmer weather....maybe today.
