hi, just wondering if there are some upgraded bearings for the rear wheels, and the fronts. went to replace my tires today and had to leave the bike at the shop because the bearings are shot. gonna go down to a bearing store tomorrow and see if i can find them, im sure the dealer wants an arm and a leg for all 4...

just wondering if the part number 6006LU and 6005LU transfer over to a better bearing, INA or timkin maybe?

There has been much speculation but no hard facts regarding other manufacturers besides the original NTN's. The replacement KBC is supposed to be better, FWIW.

Just so you have a point of reference, I ordered 4 bearings and 2 spacers for a second set of wheels, and the total was about $85 at my dealer.

Are ceramics that good? I would consider a set if they are. Is the load rating higher? No corrosion?

Bearing type is chosen with considerations to the following, with possible other factors:
1. total load
1a. time component factor. (duty cycle)
2. speed of operation
3. lubrication
4. environment

Go crazy...

The links all supply a lot of info, but no opinions from anyone that has actually tried the ceramics in their Buell. hmmmmmm.

I know a dude who had them in his race XB and he loved them. When on a stand the wheels would spin for ever. Personally, I don't know what applications they will work or fail in. Very high end bicycles have ceramics in them too.

Now were gettin' somewhere! I DO know that if I'm going down a mountain side (or similar situation) I DONT want the Huffy. On monday I will call my bearing supplier, and get the difference in the load ratings, etc.

Yeeeaahhhh baby! Boca does not list Buell, but it DOES tell what kind of bearing to look for. I'll call them Monday morning, and get the skinny. Virtually maintenance free bearings? oooo ooooo!

Yes they are! When I contact my bearing supplier on Monday, I'll see what is possibly available. $160 a bearing! WOW. Not exactly cost efficient, especially if you overtorque them once! I'll see if my supplier can beat that price up. Otherwise, cheaper in the long run with regular aftermarket bearings.

You just need the size, then there are several different versions from stainless steel balls with iron races to full out ceramics. Boca will have them all but will cost a bit. My only experience with Boca is that I needed to put some new bearings in my milling machine and I wanted some higher performance bearings because I increased the spindle speed. They have had high grade bearings for the roller skate industry for forever and a lot of people are sponsored by Boca.

Order their super special lube to go with the bearings too.

If you're worried about rear bearings, I would think it would be possible to use the 2010 Uly wheel, which has much beefier bearings, on another XB.

I believe all the 2010 Buells (well, at least all XB's and 1125's) got the updated 3 rear wheel bearing arrangement with separate seals. The Uly wheel is sold as an upgrade kit complete with wheel, bearings, seals, spacer, and axle. Not sure if the standard XB wheels are available like this or if you have to order the individual parts.

The kits are available in most colors. I know Sky White isn't available anymore, but blue, black, and the usual ones should be obtainable from your favorite dealer : )

The 2010 XB wheels with the 3 bearings are available. Just not as a kit. You have to order the wheel, bearings, spacers and seals.
