Hey Guys,

About a week ago, I installed new spark plugs into my XB12Scg. I currently have HD 20W50 in it. When the temp is below 40 degrees, it usually takes 2-3 tries before the bike starts up. Knowing that this isn't be best oil for cold weather, am I going to foul my plugs if I continue to do this? Should I wait until it warms up a little more?

Thanks,
Nick

Syn or Dino oil? It will be a bitch to start with Dino oil that cold, the syn will make it easier.

If you are going to start the bike, make sure you can ride it at least 20 minutes, so that way everything can warm up and prevent battery charge and fouling issues. If you don't plan on being out that long, take a bicycle.

It's Dino. I've ridden it 3 times so far and they have been longer than 20 minutes rides. I just wanted to be careful of fouling these new plugs.

Do you think the plugs are safe?

You should be ok, just make sure you let it warm up real good every single time you start it. Never start it and just let it run for less than 5 minutes when it's cold.

You will be fine. I recommend the Syn oil though, it does make a difference starting.

Johnboy777 did a test, he took some HD 20w50, both dino and Syn3, and put them in the freezer over night. He poured them at the same time to see the difference in flow.

The results speak for themselves.
