Your bike looks great.
I really dig how the red and black contrast so well.

Now all you gotta do is get out and ride the tires off it!

Very nice, Pete, Me like.

Once you get that beast out into the sunlight, please snap some nice shots of it and send some to me for the Customer rides section.

Looks Good !!!
Hey, that billet dipstick, the stock one is a bit tough to read due to the black color of the 'stick', is the billet one easier to read. I figure it's a lighter color and easier to read???

That thing is beautiful!!!!!!!! I've been thinking of changing the plastic on my 9S to red and seeing your bike has convinced me to do it!

Thanks!

I had just priced out the red plastics for my S for a similar change that I have been dreaming about (all the way down to the powder coated wheels!). This convinces me to do it. Awesome look!

Thanks for the praise guys. I was pretty apprehensive about going with the red since it was hard for me to visualize it in my minds eye. I ended up having someone on the board, and of course I can't remember who it was (very sorry), do a photoshop image of a 9R with the red body and black wheels and when I saw that picture it sold me on the look.

Kevin, the billet dipstick is from American Sport Bike and the indicator shaft is brass colored so seeing the oil level is a lot easier than the stock black plastic stick.

Al, I promise you better pictures when I get the bike outside but the getting it outside part is still in the planning stages as the Buell is in my basement, and my basement isn't a walk in basement. I have Bilko doors and it wasn't too hard to get her down the stairs thanks to gravity, but getting her out is going to require some creative engineering...............

Looking good. I am not very original so my plan is to see and steal ideas. Front turn signals-what model is it?

Both turn signals and bar ends are Lockhart Phillips items.

Turn signals: http://www.tricktape.com/product.asp?0=210&1=321&3=2342

Bar ends:

To use the bar ends I had to cut out the ends of the Buell traction grips.

Pete,
The bike looks great! I think the black wheels look the best. That's what changed the look of my black 12S from the beginning. Here's your photoshop pix.

It looks great! The only thing I would change would be the front fender. I know you paid a lot for the carbon fender already, but I think the red one would look even better with the scheme you have going!

Az28, Since i haven't gotten the bike out of my basement yet, much less had the TPS reset, I can't really voice an opinion about the Heli's 'on the road', but as far as just sitting on the bike it sure seems like they are more comfortable than the stock bars were. It really is amazing how such seemingly small changes can translate into such a difference.

Installation is pretty straight forward with the exception being that the ignition switch has Torx head bolts that have a spike/rod that sticks up in the middle of them that are supposed to be a security measure so that you can't use a standard Torx bit to remove them. You can buy special Torx bits that will fit these 'security' bolts or you can use a small punch and tap the top of the spike from the side from a couple directions and break it off and then use a standard Torx bit on the bolt.

I had major issues with the Heli's I purchased. They were not a completely finished item and I had to thread a couple holes myself that were supposed to be threaded when they are manufactured. I found Heli customer service to be non existent and was only offered an apology for receiving an incomplete product. "Geez, sorry about that, we had a batch or two where the CNC wasn't set up quite right and those holes didn't get finished. You'll have to thread then yourself or take them somewhere to have it done." I did a pretty detailed rant about this in February on another thread. Search the XB Board for 'Heli' and you can find it at the top of the search returns.

Heli has assured dealers that the problem has been rectified since my experience with them and they won't be shipping incomplete units so if you do buy a set you won't have to go through what I did.

This is the color combo I was screwin' around with. I want to get the tail cover from American Sport Bike, remove the cheese grater, leave the front fender and lower sections black, and the powder coat the wheels. I'm definitely inspired!

Hey Pete! Is that red paint, or did you buy the red plastic of XB12 fame and put the 9 stickers on? That looks awesome and my 9S in red would look great next to my red Ducati 748S. Thanks.

Mark

I went with the red XB12 plastic Mark. I had seen a couple painted XB's and was never too impressed with the durability of the painted Surlyn. I did change the airbox cover decals because the ones that come on the red XB12 are gold and there is no other gold on my bike to match so they looked way out of place. I put the mirrored decals off the 9S on as they were really the only thing that looked close to appropriate. I would have preferred black but they haven't made them yet for the XB. I have considered cutting out my own Buell airbox emblems out of carbon fiber to match the rest of the carbon on my bike and may try that before too long.

The small decals on the tail section and the fairing are the XB12 ones that came on the plastic as no other available alternatives worked cosmetically......

Rokoneer:
Check your local sign shops for a "carbon fiber look" vinyl. Kinda rare, but it does exist. They can cut very clean and professional looking Buell decals.
