I always have ordered a second set of keys along with the service manuals when buying a bike. It took about a week last time I did it. Yea, I could of gone to Wally World and had it done for a few bucks, but I wanted the blue keys to match the dozen other ones I got in the pile here. : )

To my knowledge Wal-Mart does not have the capability to cut that particular key. How much are they by the way and how many do you get?

you can buy blanks on ebay for like $5

now having walmart or sears cut them...idk if they have that capability you never know though, i took the key to my transalp to walmart to get a copy, and they said they werent able to do it, that i would have to take it to a lock smiths to have it cut. after school one day i ran up to the local towns hardware store and they cut the transalp's key with no questions asked....

you can go to any locksmith and get a key made for a harley or a buell usually 3 keys for $6, buells use ducati key blanks and harley is a common blank.

8 spares? Do you throw them at people that tail gate? I recommend you invest in one of those whistle key chain things, they beep when you whistle to help you find it.

as a dealership employee, hd only gives us a machine to cut barrel keys, dynas ,baggers and softails, bikes like sportys and buells your outta luck. It never ceases to amaze me how many people come in and feel like I personally am witholding theyre keys.

I would rather have spare keys than have to have one made from scratch.

I had to Have one made from scratch by a lock smith one time for my kawasaki zx9r and it took the guy 2 days get that key right and he made me 8 spares so he would never have to do it again.

I don't know how hard it is to do a buell key for them from scratch but I would asume it would be harder as there even less of them then there is ninjas in the world.

the moral of this story is get copys made before you have to get one made from scratch.

If I recall correctly, the Buell key is a Volvo blank or something. This was on a thread a year or so ago. Maybe I was dreaming..........

Used to be that way maybe. Now a days most car keys have electronic features and can take 1-2 weeks also.

I bought some Volvo blanks off of ebay and had the local hardware store cut them. I've been using them for years. Cost me all of $10 maybe, and would have been cheaper if I had just bought blanks from the hardware store in the first place.

a spare key kept where someone can bring to you if lost is very easier than a tow or being stranded, I also always have 2 keys on me for the bike when riding. One on main key ring and one for the ignition. You should never use a key fob or bunch of keys and hang them from and ignition switch, it damages it and also scratches the hell out the bike
