I'll root for 'em, but I don't think that a privateer race team on an as of yet not race tested bike is going to place when their are so many established and dialed in teams competing.

That said I hope that they get "up to speed" in a hurry and show the other teams just what the Firebolt can do. (Hope for twisty tracks!)

Impulse, I agree that the Buell teams are going to behind the eight ball a little, but Hals and Kosco are both factory sponsored Buell teams. They are also claiming that the bikes will put out around 150 rear wheel horsepower after work up. With that Chassis and that HP, I have no doubt that these bikes will be competitive. Lets hope for a few podium finishes. That would be cool.

I didn't know that they were factory teams.

Like I said, I hope that they do get on the podium, but don't expect too much from the first race. I'd be really happy to see them finish the race and be competitive. That alone will be good for the first race and could lead to a good season.

150HP... Better than I expected. Any idea at what RPM? I think if they are within ten percent they will be very competitive.

Officially the factory doesnt sponsor any team. Unofficially we all know Buell does sponsor them.

And I would say 135-140 hp would be more like it.

I hate to say this but its what I feel. so everybody can curse me and the like.

the xb's are gonna be like the VR was in the super bike. ocassionlly a 10th place finish maybe a lil better depending on the track.
otherwise I am looking at 15th place.

150 at the wheel ain't gonna happen for very long. I believe it will blow its self up.
1
like dyna said 135 to 140 maybe.

but remember a bike has to finish a race at 150 at the wheel I don't believe they will.

I wish and hope I am wrong, I really do.
I hope hal's and kosco kick ass and give us something to cheer about.

I would love to see buell on the podium in that class. But I live and breath in the real world.

so hal's and kosco please make me eat my words

Since Brian has opened the venting that we Buell racing fans feel but only some say so publicly, let me add my thoughts:

To finish a race they have to SHOW up; if Buell, Moto Guzzi, and other air cooled twin teams miss the first two races because "they are not ready", the AMA looks foolish for opening aircooled twins the doors far and wide in the FX class but nobody walked in. This applies to Ducati 748/749 teams also.

So when they eliminate water and/or air cooled twins from FX for next year due to "lack of participation" the usual suspects will be on here posting how the AMA is biased against air cooled twins.

Hal's and Kosco are factory backed, no matter how much they want to deny it. In fairness they should be described as Factory Backed, dealer operated teams, but they are Factory Backed. They get more support than a typical F-USA Thunderbike team will ever get.

I wish them well, but I wish they would show up and race, to start with.

Brian,

I don't see dealership run racing efforts being anything near comparable to the 100% factory sponsored racing effort of the HD VR1000. They are two completely different scenarios. Now if Hals, or Kosko could get the likes of Miguel Duhamel or Pascal Picotte as riders, you might start to have a point. Miguel and Pascal each campaigned the VR1000. As far as where they finish, I'll be waiting to see that for myself. It is tough for a new bike to be successful in its first outing or even in its first season of competition in a highly competitive racing class.

Sad that the Buell teams will not be racing at Fontana. Man, I hope they are ready by Laguna Seca in July. I'm planning to be there, and I want to see and hear some Buells racing! : D

JQ,
Please explain how it is "foolish" for AMAPR to provide an inclusive and fair set of racing rules. Wow, if it's foolish for a racing organization to not fill its grids with all allowable configurations of machines, imagine the shame of the FUSA and CCS management for having all those silly inclusive rules.

How foolish does AMAPR feel over Honda's refusal to compete in Supersport or Kawasaki and Yamaha's refusal to field a factory team in Superbike? Answer, not in the least. Disappointed maybe, foolish, no way.

No, what IS foolish and embarrassing is for an American namesake racing series to exclude some configurations, including those favored by American and European brands. THAT is what is foolish and disappointing, and it should be embarrassing to the AMA too.

If as I suspect, Buell and the Hal's and Kosko FX teams are persuing a strategy of "Don't race it until it's ready" then I for one support them 100%.

And as far as embarrassment or shame goes, AMAPR executives deserve some heaping helpings for any number of reasons associated with their history of lies, doubletalk, disgraceful performance, and disingenuous dealings. It's you JQ who should feel foolish for being such an unflinchingly blind and stalwart supporter of AMAPR. But here they finally do something to help promote diversity in racing machinery and you are making them out to be fools, saying they will feel foolish for including a few extra paragraphs in their technical rules for FX so that machines other than liquid cooled IL4's can race. Dude, give it a break already.

I don't get it. The AMA, the American Association of Motorcyclists, a non-profit brotherhood of motorcycle enthusiasts hands over in gift-wrapped condition THE pre-eminent racing series of the country to a bunch of self serving jerks with regard for nothing other than profit, but you seek to deride Buell and focus on the negative at every turn. That is sad.

Though you claim to be so, you certainly don't seem to be much of a fan of Buell racing, at least not from your comments and criticisms posted here. You are simply too hypercritical of Buell to be a true fan. Anyone reading your commentary on the Buell racing scene would certainly have a hard time concluding that you are rooting for Buell's success. A "fan" is not objective. A "fan" stands by his/her team. I know Buell racing fans. I am a Buell racing fan. YOU are no Buell racing fan.

Really though, I think you are just disappointed and like when you couldn't get Buell Racing to sell you a "race only" belly pan for your street bike, you are taking your disappointment out on Buell. How about showing some support there Mr. Buell racing fan?

About the 150, I'm only repeating what I heard here on this Forum. Bads1 said he talked to Kirk at Hal's and he said that they were going to meet the HP output of the other teams and that they would be ready for Fontana. Missing Daytona was not a big deal because that track was not suited for the XB's but missing Fontana will be disappointing. I hope they race next weekend no matter what HP they put out.

Is this about post about Buell racing or JQ bashing? Blake, I don't know you but I do know JQ. I see him promoting Buell's left and right in our area; at BT events, MC shows, AND at Form. USA races. I don't get it. He made a valid point, the door is open. Let's not waste the opportunity so get on the grid.

Let's cut out the personal attacks.

I hope they do well...I wish we were there in it with them.

I was just stating where we would possibly be finishing

I see your point. Invoking the miserable failure that was the VR1000 effort touched a nerve with me. I would not want to put any burgeoning Buell racing effort into the same company as the VR1000 effort. So watch it buddy, or you may find yourself sharing a bunk with José at the next BRAG event. joker

FBolt,
It was about Buell racing until someone started whining and bitching and griping and complaining and pontificating about things they know pretty much nothing about.

JQ,
I almost forgot... The Hal's and Kosko FX teams are about as "factory backed" as the Team Elves LSR effort. You simply don't know what the hell you are talking about. I know you would love to hold up the Hal's and Kosko FX efforts as being as close to full-on 100% factory efforts so you could then use that status and any lack of success to berate their efforts even more, but that is simply not the case.

If you are interested in the honest truth, Brian can shed some light on how "factory backed" the Tilley Pro Thunder effort was.

Tilleys didnt get jack shit for support from the factory, thats one of the reasons they arent in it anymore.

Hals & Kosco get all the unobtainable parts that use mere mortals cant get. They are not a true "factory sponsored" team in the same way that Honda or Suzuki fields a team, but Buell does give them a lot of help.

I really feel like spewing a long line of profanity in CAPS with the intention of saying that I would be jumping up and down in my living room screaming and yelling GO BUELLS!!!!! even if you were in last place but that you should get on the grid... I decided against it. You guys know more about the "plan" than I do.

Please race though. I want to see a Buell (namely mine : )) and thank "Yeah baby! That's one bad mother $%^&*# ride..." just like I do when I see a Shelby Cobra or a GT-40. It took a few years for the GT-40 to dominate Le-Mans. I'm patient, but I can't wait. I want to see another legendary american race effort and Buell is in the EXACT spot he should be to do it. Maybe if someone threw an Indian engine into a world class frame it would get Willie's attention.

Why aren't they going to be at Fontana Annony???I was told they were but did something come up or ????Dyna 135-140rwhp is what they were at last year according to Kirk.He told us 150rwhp is the magic number they will be at this year. And Tilleys isn't in it any longer is not because of a lack of support of BUELL its Don Tilley quite frankly is having a much better time promoting his drag race team with the V-ROD and its alittle costly to do both.

Well, if it is true that Buells won't be at California Speedway in Fontana next weekend, I think they could make a pretty good showing at Sears Point (Infineon) Raceway, the month after. The track has just been resurfaced, and is baby butt smooth.

And they could do well at Laguna Seca in July.

These tracks were built for Buells.

Kirk can talk 150hp all he wants, fact is they wont see it. He also said they were gonna be at Fontana.

And yes Tilleys is promoting the Drag bike deal, but if they were getting the same level of support that Kosco & Hals are getting they would still be road racing. Its a thorn in Tilleys side that they werent on a level field with the other players.

Geeeez Dyna for someone that doesn't follow racing you sure know alot.If they produced 135-140 out of last years bike,I'm quite sure they will find and hit there numbers. As far as Tilleys going racing,if Don Tilley wants to go racing he'll go racing.I think he's doing ok at the drags much like Vance&Hines is starting to do well as well.

Dana you might want to talk to Bubba about that, he knows a little bit more about the state of racing affairs at Tilleys.

And I guarantee they arent going to get 150 hp out of their present motors. For drag racing you can use nitrous & what have you because it doesnt need to be dependable, for road racing you need a motor thats going to stay together for awhile.
