Got my '09 Uly in October after the news broke. It had 800 miles, but on the showroom looked like new. Dealer story, good customer decided he wanted the new Harley, and so returned this bike unregistered. The truth, customer had tried mods to exhaust and ecm, etc(work done by dealer) looking for more performance. Could not get bike to run right, so dealer set it back stock and in I walked. Told me 1000mi service done, and so I rode away without checking anything. At 1000 miles the oil light came on, it was 1.75 qt low. Dealer then did 1000mi service. 200 miles later, I'm adding oil, every 200 to 250 miles. Then Bike developed severe vibrations (more than it already had), and something happened on way to dealer, (new dealer)and transmission locked up in 5th. It has been in shop two months. Trans repair shifter & clutch pack, but guess what, it is now being re-ringed, as it failed the leak down test. The Vibration and transmission problems resulted from front muffler band breaking(we all know why)and muffler striking drive belt tensioner wheel, causing a kick back thru the trans. Of course the oil consumption was from the rings.
Question; what now happens to the value of my bike after all this major work. Who would want it now? Has anyone else experienced anything like this, especially the oil consumption of a low mileage (1800 miles) engine.
Waiting for the engine build to be completed, should be ready this week. Will post an update then.

Oh, forgot to say. All this work is covered by warranty, thankfully.

Value is the same as long as the work is done well and correctly.
Who would want it now?
Hopefully, you. That Uly ought to give you years of smilin' miles.

I haven't, but it seems to be a non-issue since the trouble has been found and is being taken care of.

sorry to hear about your troubles.
isn't that warranty grand?

as long as all the repairs were performed correctly, it should be worth the same or slightly more than what it would have been without the fresh motor and gears.

with the declining values of buell motorcycles, are you sure you want to sell it now? the values will come up again.
not like next week or anything, but down the road.

okay, i'll stop. seriously. my bikes are worth more to me than their MSRP's

Prolly nothing.

I will swing by and pick it up so you dont have to worry about how much its worth, I am only about an hour away.

Or we could meet up in the Suches area for a ride and then you can determine how much its worth, mines worth its weight in gold to me.

Like others have said. It doesn't hurt the value of your bike relative to others at all assuming the work is done properly.

Buell shutting the doors hurts the value of you bike with all the dealer inventory liquidation and people panicking and dumping their rides, but frankly, Buells always had pretty low resales anyway. So I wouldn't sell it now. Unlike others, I really don't expect the value to go up much in the coming years, but I don't expect it to go lower either. Put some miles on it and get some joy out of riding it. It will probably be worth the same in two years as it is today.

Guess that's what I'll do, ride it some if the weather ever warms up. Actually I've not enjoyed this bike very much. All my previous rides were Japs, and the last one was some 32 years ago. I had no idea the harshness of the Buell ride, but that is offset by the handling. What displeases me the most is the unbearable heat, and I've not ridden in the summer yet. People complain about the gas mileage (my best is 32mpg) but with the tank boiling off, is there anywonder the mpg sucks.
Anyway, I found BadWeathers after I got the bike, and I appreciate the info I've gained from all these posts.
Got a call and my bike will be delivered tomorrow. Maybe it will be a whole new ride.

Well, when you decide you still hate it, I'll give you a dollar and take it off your hands, though with all the trouble maybe you should pay me

I'm asked pretty regularly how much my recently rebuilt '02 X1 is worth. My answer is that it's priceless. Doesn't matter how much time or money is put into the bike, only thing that matters are the miles and smiles that it brings me.

Same way with the XT.. lots of cruiser and sport touring riders at work have taken notice and asked what it is and how much it costs to get one. It's worth a lot more than the $7900 that it cost me : )

Yo yall, thanks for all the feedback. The Uly came home a few days ago, but you know how it is here in the deep south, what with all that Global Warming stuff, and all this snow on the ground. Still haven't put a mile on her yet, but sure looks good there in my garage. I gotta admit, it sure looks more valuable now than when it was in the shop and all I had was a big 'ole empty space in my garage-for two months. A little advice for you, go out an get some muffler clamps(especailly front one) if you can find them. Three weeks of my wait was for front muffler clamp, and even though you can find the exact item (after market) you cannot use it for warranty work. Gotta have that part number no matter how long it takes to get it. So it breaks down like this: 8 hours labor,1350 hours wait for parts. And I now have lost two months of my warranty period.

finally, I got out for a short, ten mile, ride, and I have a totally different bike. The bike is quieter and smoother running than before, and the shifting is so much better, I can even click neutral-no more hunting for that one. I am concerned about the whirring from the transmission because it was not there before and I've read posts that mention that as a sign that the primary chain has too much tension. Anybody got a thought on that. There is also a noisy vibration from somewhere in the front of the bike now. It may be in the dash, but cannot
tell for sure. I will have to take it back and have it checked, I guess.

The horn is under the front cowling. take off the cowling and bend the mount tang back for more clearance. If you suspect the primary chain is out of adjustment, check it. It takes only minutes. Remember this engine is basically old school stuff, nothing hard about it.
