With the fact the new 04 sporty uses the heads from the XB, would it be possible to use the intake manifold with the XB12 throttlebody? This would be for and application in a tuber frame with an XB engine/DDFI system. Just rolling around the idea at the moment as I haven't sourced an engine yet but have one I can use for the mockup for all the mounting and the running gear.

Hmmm, I've heard that the only parts that actually have the same part number are the jugs. I'm not a dealer type though so I could be wrong.

Several of the media have stated the heads, jugs and pistons are the same as the XB Buells.

Well for starters the XB motor will not work in a tube frame.

The swing arm actully mounts to the motor in the XB's where as the tubers had a bracket betweent the swing arm an motor.

How ever.
You can put the XB top end on a tuber motor, You will need a new front motor mount from Nallin Racing or make your own by modifying your existing mount. (the XB heads front mount is narrower than the tubers)
Also I wouldn't use the XB throttle body on a tuber unless you were gonna mount it lile it is on the XB bikes due to design an fitment, the throttle body an manifold on a 12 are one piece.

The mounting of the engine and swingarm have already been figured out. All its going to take is the time to actually set the components in place and make the final measurements for the rear bracketry.

Is the FI and manifold on the sportster the same one piece setup as the XB? For some reason I hadn't realised that it was a one piece unit. To me it looked like a slip fit, that used O-rings for sealing and a plate bolted to the manifold and throttlebody to hold it together. Though adimittedly it was a cursory look.

Hi there,
Sportster heads are not identical with XB heads. They use the same core but different size valves and seats. Additionally the engine breather system is different (it breathes through the same old bores in the heads like itīs done for years; XB heads are not machined in this area). You canīt use the XB12 manifold assembly for a side feed engine as it will point downwards at a specific angle when mounted to Sportster heads (itīs milled at a different angle for top feed).Unfortunately I canīt tell You more things about the Sportsterīs intake system.

Alex, I am not looking to put Sportster heads on the XB, I am looking to use the intake manifold from a sporty with the XB heads so that I can have a side intake for use in a tubeframe. However it was my understanding from the print articles about both the 2004 sportster 1200 and the XB12 that the heads were "hot swapable".

what spidey said...the intake mainfold is at a different angle.

and there is no FI on the sprotsters, if I read correctly what you said.

If You want to have a side feed XB engine in a tube frame just use the X1 setup (Iīm rather sure that the XB9 throttle body hasnīt changed compared to the X1 only the manifold). Donīt worry about air flow, You donīt need the XB 12 setup. Correctly modified a X1 throttle body can easily outflow Your heads except You have one of my Stage-R-Heads : ). The 45mm throttle body flows enough air to produce over 100hp rear wheel in slightly modified X1 engines without boring it to 48mm or whatever size.
