I have a 03 xb9r and I went down about a week ago, no major damage got off cheap. I went in to order a triple tree and the guy told me that the part was obsolete. Does anyone know why this part was obsolete? Any info would help.

I can't see how it could be obsolete as they still produce the XB9R. Should be the same as a '04.

I asked him about the 04 model and he said the same thing. But I just got off the phone with him, and he got the new part number for it. He didn't really say why the part number changed. Maybe they raised the price or something, but thanks. By the way this web site rocks.

I also scraped a good chunk of my gear cover assembly. From the looks of it do I have to take off the header to change that?

He meant that the part NUMBER was obsolete. He simply failed to find out what the new part number was.

Which gear cover? Pulling the cam cover (right side of the bike as you sit on it) requires more then just the headers.... you have to pull both rocker boxes.

Pulling the primary cover (left side of bike as you sit on it) on my M2 just requires pulling off the shifter linkage, no biggie. Can't imagine it is much worse on an XB. Exhaust can remain in place, though it will make a bit of a mess if you don't drain it first.

You don't hear the phrases "got off cheap" and "order a new triple tree" said together very often... ; )

The one on the right side. Where in the center it says Firebolt. As soon as my parts come in I have some work to do. With all the parts I ordered it came out to about under $450.00. My triple tree, gear cover assembly, both pegs on right side, front right turn signal, back brake assembly, front master lever, and tail light. Good thing the frame wasn't hit. Got to watch out for gravel.

the computer tells you the superceded part number right infront of their god forsaken face....but then one must beable read to figure that out...

must have been a family member of the the owner's or something. sure does do american workmanship proud.
god somedays it sucks sobad to be affiliated with the harley davidson dealer network and their imbred way of hiring personnel.

Brian,
I'm related to the owner. That doesn't make me a bad person or a bad worker. I know exactly where the supersede box is, and how to read.

Add in the price of a couple rocker box gasket kits... : ( You will have to pull them to get that cover off (if you need to actually pull the cover). If it is just the decorative firebolt logo, you don't have to pull the whole cover.

Its a lot of work, but straightforward. It will just take time (not unlike replacing the triple tree).

Your right, 450 is cheap for a whole new triple tree and assorted grindy bit replacements...

Xbvictor -
Glad to have you aboard.
Sux to hear about your get off.
You could always save some money and skip the passenger pegs, just take the left hand side off.
Also, there is a blinker you can get (Aftermarket) thats like 15 bucks for a set. They are just as bright as the stock and cheap to replace. I use em all the time on the rear of my XB9R/S because Im always bustin the rear turn signals.

Glad to see another Buell rider in the Golden Bear Republic. About the only thing more rare here are Buell dealers. Good or bad.
Give me a post if you ever head up this way.
If you haven't done it already get the Firebolt service manual from your dealer. Its worth every bit of the 50 to 60 bucks.

Oh, forget about replacing the cam cover. It adds character!

-=cam cover's been scraped since 3 months after I got the bike=-

I still have a dent in my header, too - woe is me!

Okay so I ordered my triple tree to my 9r about 2 weeks ago, all my parts came in except for the triple tree. When I called to find out if the part came in they told me it was on Back Order. Why would that part be on back order?
