So my '03 9R has been parked for about the last two months in my garage. Today it finally stopped raining and I took it out. When I put the bike in Neutral and turn the key the N light did not light up nor did it make the prime noise, however the bike was in neutral but would not start. have never had any problems with flickering N light or anything like that. When I pulled the clutch in I was able to hear the prime and start the engine. At this point the bike is still in Neutral. I went to let the clutch out, kickstand is down, and the bike dies, even though it is still in N. Still no light at all. If I put the kickstand up I was then able to let the clutch out and the bike would continue to run, but lever still had to be pulled in to start. To sum it up. Bike is in N at all times. bike will only prime and start when clutch is in. Can only keep bike running if clutch is held in with stand down; or is released after stand has been raised. Bad sensor??? Point me in the right direction guys. Thanks much.

Kickstand switch or whatever it was in '03? I think most were deleted...I know mine was. Maybe a neutral safety switch? Are your battery connections good and tight and is the battery fully charged? Just some thoughts for you.

Whitexc ~ Thank you for your response. battery is good and strong. I found out how to test the "N" light and will do so soon. As for the kickstand switch, I will look into how to test, unless someone can advise. It definitely has the safety on the kickstand. Thank you for the feedback, anyone else?

You've got a ground issue. Check the ground for the neutral light. I've replaced several on customer bikes. Your ground is sufficient to "light" up your neutral light, but not good enough to energize the relay. Replace the neutral indicator switch if the ground is more than .04 ohms. Also check the condition of the wires behind your sprocket cover, they tend to rub thru the insulation at this point. Hope this helps.
