Just a Little Info, I ordered a new Amber front wheel from Harley and The color is way too yellow and does not even come close to the original. Has anyone ever seen this. I'm waiting to see if they will take it back and charge me 20% restocking fee for the honor of opening a box.

If you are interested, I have an amber front wheel that I would part with fairly cheap because it is a little scratched. We're both in TN, so if you are interested it would be pretty easy.

Your best bet if you were going to be charged would be just to find somebody interested and subtract maybe 5 or 10 percent and sell it on here. I would guess that it would go rather quickly.

Interesting that the new wheel has the old style bearings, it must of been sitting on a shelf somewhere.

Not really Froggy. I can show you a 08 sitting on the floor with red seals. I bought a Blue wheel for my bike and the seals were black. That was in 08 also. Nothing wrong with the red seals. Just the 03 black seals were a problem for the most part.

Yes the new bearings came out about August 2008, so all 08 models and some early 09's will will have the older bearings. Half my bikes have the orange ones, they have been fine. I recall when you bought your new blue rim it came with the new black bearings, that was about when they first came out.

Just curious whats wrong with the wheel on the bike? If it were me I'd keep it, maybe pic doesn't show full color difference but looks close enough. Only hub area looks lighter will not be noticeable when bolted on.

The front rim on the bike has a bent lip its right behind the new wheel but you can't see it. these pics are in my dark garage, I tried everything to see if the color diff would be noticed, Squinted my eye's, drank beer, smoked weed, the only thing that helped was turning off the light.

Just some good news, Harley is going to take the wheel back and not charge me the 20% restocking fee. They say they are going to send me a new one, Lets hope they look at the pics and try to find a better color match.

Here is the final say in the matter straight from The E-mail I got today
"I spoke with ---- after he talked to tech with H-D and they said a few things. One thing they said was that at this time all the wheels are undergoing the same painting process. He also said it hasn’t changed since they first came out. He said that what likely happened with your rims is that they have been exposed to the elements. He said sunlight, cleaning materials, and just overall exposure have in the past altered the colors only a bit but there is nothing they can do to get it darker. He said that the only option you have is to replace both wheels and they will match or take the new one and just wait for it to change over time. Please let me know what you choose."
BUY TWO RIMS AND THEY WILL MATCH. But they won't match the windscreen or buell emblems on the air box. Another $300 plus sweet!!!!!!!!!

I don't mean to sound pissy. And I would like to thank Jannett At SURDYKE.COM For all her effort.

I have 2 sets of rims for my bike and the color isn't noticeably different between the 4. I got an 05 and in 07 I bought a set off ebay and I'd say my rims look more like the new rim you got. What do you use to clean your rims? I would think paint would get lighter with age not darker. Best bet is keep an eye on ebay for a front wheel. Amber wheels are probably the least popular color of Buell wheels so you should be able to pick up a front wheel for less than half of new.

am i the only one that remembers all the problems people had with the huge color variations between things like the amber heel guards and such that were supposedly done exactly the same as everything else? they have always had a problem with the shade of the amber.

Erik himself has said there was variations in the colors. The Amber wheels ingeneral were problems. To much or not enough powder and it would change the color. They were not easy to do.

yeah my amber heel gaurds at times appeared to match and at other times seemed to be way to dark. I ordered them the day they came out and it took 4 months before they were taken off back order. stuff shouldnt be advertised for sale if its not available. i also want to say several people had wheels replaced under warranty for powdercoat problems.
