I just installed the first part of my comfort kit. It took 3 hours. I hope the rest of the kit is easier. I sure hope this is a worthwhile endeavor.

What exactly does the comfort kit come with?

1.Fan exhaust duct
2.Header cover
3.Shroud, inner right side
4.Shroud, outer right side

The fan duct goes under the seat and covers your shock and fan area. It's a major pain to install if you do it right.

Blackdog, I received my kit the other day and just installed the inner and outer shrouds to start with ('06X) and despite getting absolutely raped on price over here it is still the best money I have ever spent on the bike. It is definitely a worthwhile endeavor - I will be ordering a second kit for my '09XT tomorrow.

Rays. Are you going to install the fan duct?

I bought my kit from American Sport Bike for $115.

Is that the same comfort kit, including ECM flash, as I've heard the Uly guys talk about? Wasn't sure if it was applicable for other XB models or not.

It's not compatible with XB models. The scoops and header shield will bolt on no problem. One person modified the fan duct a little to make it fit an SS. The ECM programming is available on all 2008+ models.

But it USED to be worse.

Froggy, is the header shield compatible with the scg? If so do you got a part # for it?

It should be compatible, as its the same header.

S0175.5AK and you need two of S0176.8

I have it completely installed. The fan runs just as long as it did before but I did not have it re flashed yet.

Was thinking of getting this for my '08STT, will there be any problems putting this on? Seems that the fan ducting under the seat may not fit at all.

Blackdog, how did you modify the fan exhaust duct to get it to fit? Can you post a picture of it installed?

I did not have to modify, all parts fit perfectly.

Because you have a Uly. Non-Uly models will require modification to the fan duct.

Pardon the ignorance, but why is this primarily targetted at Ulys? Are they deficient compared to the other XB's in some way pertaining to rider comfort?

Nobody cares about XB's : D

The fix for the XB was to simply install the little scoop and be done with it. The Uly riders were more likely to report heat related discomfort due to on average riding 10x as more as a XB, and also due to the different tail sections more heat got trapped.

Thanks Froggy. I guess I'll get my XB and get some saddle time before worrying about it. Should be picking up next weekend - yippee! (even though riding conditions up here in the NE still totally suck in a colossal manner...)

The roads were surprisingly nice today, but the wind was a bitch. I need to ride to Sears tomorrow and pick up a jack and tools and begin fixing my piece of crap XB. My Blast has been soaking up all this salt, I need to have the fleet as operational as possible : )

How badly does an XB have to misbehave to be classified as a piece of crap?

Just have one snap a swingarm, and have your other one become a car magnet. It dosen't matter now, I got a special front end going on, I just hope my head will clear the windshield : )

Update
I installed the comfort kit on my 08 XB12XT about 3 weeks ago and noticed no change in fan operation. The fan always ran after shutting the bike off. I was not aware of it running any other time.

Two weeks later I had the reflash done ($55). The fan no longer runs after shut down. While riding at speed I can't tell if is on or off. When slowing to a stop I can hear the fan running until about 10-15 MPH when it stops.

So, I think the fan is running all the time at above about 15 MPH. I cant tell for sure if its running at speed though because of wind/bike noise. At shut down it doesn't at all.

I'm not sure about felt heat yet as it's still cool in my area.

For those who have a race ecm, would there be any way to emulate the re flashed fan operation perhaps with ecmspy?

The DDFI2 bikes ECM isn't complex enough to allow fan control from parameters other than temperature.

I installed the comfort kit on my '08 XT and had the ECM flashed with the "most recent mappings from HD" Runs alot cooler on the right side now but now the fan doesn't turn on after riding. I haven't been to concerned since its so annoying but the boys at HD told me to keep an eye on it.

I installed the confort kit on my 06 Uly.. however I didnt bother with installing the fan shroud.
I noticed the following differences:
- fan barely turns on. sometimes it even doesnt turn on after shutting off the bike.
- pinging issue resolved. My bike would ping when it got hot. It has pinged a few times when stuck in traffic though.. to be expected... just go easy on the gas until it cools off again.
