Ok, so I bought an '09 XB12Ss a few states away. Build date was May '09. Is there anything I should make sure the dealer takes care of before picking it up in a couple weeks? Any relevant recalls, or ECM updates, or ??? I have a local Buell dealer so I can deal with it later if there are any issues - but would like to make sure it's up to date before leaving with it.

Thanks!

My XB also has a May 09 build date and front brake line was routed correctly.

Legally the recall has to be done before it leaves the dealer. Although I know someone that bought an 08 1125R a few months ago that didn't have the brake line recall done.

Probably a dumb question but there's been a lot of discussion on the 1125 forum about the various "flash" upgrades and versions for the ECM. I haven't seen similar traffic over here in XB land. I gather there's not an analogous situation - is it a different design/architecture of the ECM? Or is it just more stable, and there haven't been a lot of revisions needed?

The ECM is the exact same on both the 08+ XB and 1125. Difference is, the fueling was better from the start on the XB, being that the motor has been around for a while. Early 08 models did have some quirks that were resolved in later firmwares. You can have them check for updates if you desire, but it isn't necessary.

the line will be ran on the outside of the fork leg vs. inside.

You need to have the VIN checked. Your brake line can be on the outside without the entire recall being performed.

@ Froggy – how do you have your VIN checked? will the HD online profile give you any information, or do you have to check with the dealer.

Is there a place I can find out more info regarding this recall or any other possible recalls that might be relevant to my bike?

Your best bet is the have someone on here that works at a Buell dealer check. You can punch it in on harley-davidson.com but I have read of it not being accurate.

Just be aware that the dealer most likely has not looked at the bike at all.

Therefore, before riding it, be sure to check the following:

1. Tire pressures: 36 front 38 rear
2. Oil level: Dip Stick in in the swing arm.
Oil level should be between the marks.
3. Set up the suspension for your weight according to the owners manual, setting the preload, and compression and rebound settings on the front fork and rear shock.
This is very important.
4. It is not unusual for the front spark plug on demo bikes to get fouled as the bike is started, rev'd a few times, and then shut off quickly in the showroom.

I have bought two new Buells, and in spite of waiting for hours at the dealers, Atlantic County HD, (no longer a Buell dealer), none of the above were properly set, although they said they were.

SOP in Harley land.

Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it. I'll provide the "to-do" list to my sales dude. If anybody knows the latest, greatest ECM flash version that should be loaded, I'd like to make sure that's in there too...

@Swamp2 - you may not want to get the latest flash, but I could be wrong. I was told by Al at American Sport Bike that if you plan on doing any modifications and want to be able to tune the ECM, getting the latest flash could possibly render the ECM untunable.

Which wouldn't be an issue anyway, they run pretty good out of the box. Also, more tuning programs are in the works. All it would take is time for them to become compatible.

Is this the guide that was installed for the recall? I'm just making sure the recall was done. The HD site doesn't show any recalls needing to be done when putting in the VIN number.

I have no intentions of any mods to the bike, I just want it to run as well as it can with the stock stuff. Generally, at least on the 1125, every update allegedly improved things so I figured the same would be true for the XB's. Since it's unlikely there will be any subsequent updates coming from the factory () I figured the latest would be the best...

And, if for some reason I feel like I need a faster bike, I'll ride my 1125CR, which will also remain stock. It's fast enough to scare the crap out of me as is...

Nvr2old - just had the recall installed yesterday and that's the guide... so either it's correct or we're both screwed.

Thanks Vospertw, I'm not sure how it works, but I guess I'm glad it's there.
