I have had the race ecm, drummer, and K&N air filter for two years now. I recently saw a post that the race ecm is only useful if you load your own custom map to it. So if I am suppose to load a map on it where do I get a map for xb12ss with drummer? How to I load the map on the ecm? I have the digital technician so would this work with ecmspy? Anybody close to marietta, GA that could help?

i think you are getting the "race" ecm or pro series ecm mixed up with the real race ecm. the "race" ecm or pro series was an ecm that you could buy from the factory optimized for the race pipe and a k&n filter. the Real race ecm you had to have a race license for and it was made to do custom maps and stuff.

You can however use ecm spy with the one you have to do custom maps.

Do you have a race ecm with the PCM Tool software or just the P&A ECM? If you have the true race ecm then you don't need ecm spy or a digital tech, the PCM Tool software is all you need. If you have the P&A ecm then you could try ecm spy. I've never used it, so I don't know if it works with the P&A ECM's.

The true race ECM would have been shipped with a stock map. A map for a drummer doesn't exist from the factory so you will have to either find someone that has already made one or take your bike to a shop a have it tuned.

The Buell Race ECM is tuned to the Race Muffler. A Drummer runs pretty well with the stock ECM or a Race ECM and a bit better if its tuned.

It's a pretty easy exhaust to run usually.

The Over The Counter (Buell Dealer) race only ECM was designed to work with the OTC race muffler and a free flow air filter was called the race kit. It was sold as a bolt on through any Buell dealer. As long as those three parts operated together on a stock motor, no outside mapping was required. It was this kit that Kevin developed his Drummer slip on muffler for and as with all his cans, it was well designed putting out good Dyno numbers.

The other Race Only ECM (race license required) you got through the Buell race department. They required Dyno tuning, with the early ones using a DOS program, but when the XBRR came to be, it became a Windows program.

Back to the one you have which I think is the OTC version, it will work well with your Drummer. Al at American Sport Bike has some ECM Spy maps available I developed on my Dyno. Those maps are designed to take advantage of the differences between the Buell race can and Kevin's.

I don't have a race license and I purchased it from sporttwin.com. So this is the OTC ecm with "race use only" printed on the top. Do I need a specific ecmspy cable or can I use the direct link cable I bought?

IF you have the "over the counter" race ECM and K&N, Drummer - I'm betting you are going to be pretty close to right on your tune.

Just get the TPS re-set and do a couple pulls on the dyno to check air/fuel across the throttle and RPM ranges. If it aint broke, don't fix it. The stock map burned into the "Race ECM" should work with what you've got.

Trust me, unless you are ready for it, you really don't want to get into programming unless you have done some big changes to the engine... just intake and exhaust (K&N and Drummer) are not that wild.

I put one of Terry's tunes from American Sport Bike into my friend's Firebolt with a Race ECM and a Drummer. The map loaded with ECMSpy. It is absolutely the best XB I have ridden. It ran well on the Race ECM but the tune just smoothed it out nicely. You can get mufflers that make more HP than the Drummer but I haven't found one that is a nice to ride.

I had one of the tunes from American Sport Bike for my Micron and it was perfect. The Micron has to be mapped.

If you don't need to tune the Drummer just ride with it. If you think it needs it buy a map from American Sport Bike and a cable and get someone to dig up ECMSpy and load it in following the instructions. Play around with backing up your EEPROM data and stuff first to get used to it, but ECMSpy is pretty easy to use for loading and saving maps

ECMSpy!
I have hunted and pecked everywhere to find a copy of ECMSpy.
Anyone have a loaner or one sell to me?

Thanks to anyone willing to help.
